So, I just got a bunch of the commercials I've written put onto vid and online. I know y'all say you hate advertising, but maybe you won't hate mine as much. I try to fight the good fight.

So, for those who care...TinyE's hilight reel (take that, Bobby Sippio!)

Yeah. We shot the appetizer stuff with a director named Fred Goss. Really cool dude, he starred in/wrote/directed a short-lived series called "Sons and Daughters"

Kind of like Arrested Development. They show repeats on the HD channel on DIRECTV.

That campaign was a big zag for Friday's because they were going outside the restaurant and showing the opposite of their typical customer. But the striped table told people immdiately that it was a TGIF spot.

She asked me. Oh she was all a quiver. I just took her aside, put my loving arm around her and sang a song:

I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Now I'm in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world
Don't you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath - it gets better
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be

A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and.....meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

TinyEvel
09-21-2007, 11:36 PM
c'mon, you HAD to see that coming.

I'm on a salary at the agency and I work on certain accounts. This spans over 8 years and there are about 20 spots that aren't shown, as well as radio ads, Billboards, in-store posters, etc.etc.

We get briefed for each assignment: what the goals are, who we're talking to, what they want to communicate, etc. and then we come up with ideas given the client's brand ID., current campaign mandatories, production budgets, etc. etc.

It's pretty fun but also hard. Like having a term paper due every week, or month, or day.

Like, with Coors, the Wingman, we got that assignment to make Coors Light more relevant to young guys, in October. They signed the OK to shoot that ad in February. FOr that ad there were about 40 spots that got killed for cretain reasoins, In fact, the Wingman idea died three times before we changed it enough to get it through.

A guy who's doing creative for accounts like these is making surgeon money.

As he should be. The revenue his work helps to generate for his clients makes him and the agency he's with a bargain.

Well, at the time, they were doing all those "..and TWINS!" songs. It made CL look like the beer for horny 21 year-olds (which it probably is) but they were alienating women and older beer drinkers (older being over 24).
So we made spots based on "The brotherhood of guy" i.e. the idea that your friends are your closest relationships at that age. We had some other good songs (i.e. "Sausagefest" about a party with too many guys) but they just produced Wingman and a few other guy-related spots and thenthey switched to an other agency and the frozen locomotive :shake:

TinyEvel
09-22-2007, 09:54 AM
Tiny e how do you choose which person is good for a commercial cause some of those people are perfect for their commercial spots.

We go through casting. We send out a spec (a general physical description of what type we're looking for) and then the casting companies put that out on the wire. THen, all the local actors who fit the spec go to a studio and do the spot in front of a video camera. We get a DVD of all those peoples' takes (many are painful to watch) and we choose who to call back. Then we have a live casting session of these "Callback" people with the director working with them. We ultimately pick a lead and backup for each role, and present that to the client. Many times a client will be uncomfortable with who we choose. We've had to go back and choose new people because someone was too heavy, too annoying, too unusual looking, etc.
