According to http://www.ffmastermind.com/bits/hot.shtml (FFMastermind.com), former Saints receiver Keith Poole will visit with the Chiefs tomorrow and may sign a deal immediately.

I guess this would be an alright move, but I would much rather wait and see how this Terry Glenn issue plays out.

The Pats have told him to skip the mandatory mini-camp, and things aren't looking so good for Terry right now in New England.

Here is the link to the Glenn story:.http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/multi/0,1329,3966088_59,00.html

I also decided to do a little research, with the release of Gray, we now have $543,000 under the cap. If we cut Jeff Blackshear, Mikhael Ricks, and Larry Parker like I expect, that will free up another $1,630,000 under the cap.

Combined that will give us $2.17 to sign the rest of our rookies, and add a couple more players like a Glen Cadrez or Jason Belser

I'd rather stay away from Poole. It just means less PT for SlyMo and Minnis to learn on the field, so that they'll be ready to contribute next season when we could make a serious run at the playoffs. Not to mention, it's our defense that needs players and depth IMO. I wouldn't care if we won 7-8 games this season by playing some of these youngsters and evaluating our talent.

Thanks for the heads-up though.

The cap situation sounds OK too.

Poole is not a bad player. We were talking about Chrebet earlier and he's as tough as nails.

Trivia Question:

Keith Poole scored a TD in his lone game at Arrowhead. It was very significant, even though it didn't effect the outcome of the game (Chiefs won the game BTW). What was its significance?

If it's too tough, I'll start to drop a hint or two...

I think it was the first time I was officially sick to my stomach of seeing "The Mighty Mouse Flex".

I would prefer: Alexander, Morris, Minnis, Poole to DA, Sly, Snoop, Parker/Ricks/?? If we plan on running lots of 4-5 WR sets, makes sense to have 4-5 solid WRs! :)

Mr Blond:

You're not that far off. He did beat Mighty Mouse for a TD (it might have been 2) that day... that soggy, icy day.

Chiefs won 25-13.

Now, it can't get any easier than that.

Why was Poole's TD so important that day? (It's not a point spread or over/under reason)

To try and answer the trivia question about Poole-is it When Ditka coached the Saints and they scored a TD in the 2nd half to end our NFL record shutout of opponents scoring against us in the 2nd half in 11 games?

BigChiefFan:

That is EXACTLY right! The NFL record 11 straight games without allowing a 2nd half TD went by the boards when Poole went by Mighty Mouse and hauled in a TD in the 3rd quarter of the Chiefs 25-13 win over the Saints on the last game of the 1997 regualr season.

I hated that bastard for doing that, but I'd embrace him if ever came our way...

Wouldn't it be nice if we'd have had the foresight to keep Joe Horn, who basically cost Poole his job.

Ah well, can't have everything I guess.

I was under the impression that Poole was more of a "hands" guy than a "speed/quicks" guy, is that wrong?

HC_Chief
06-04-2001, 03:32 PM
keg - that's accurate. He has good speed and great hands... runs solid routes. Horn has flat-out blazing speed.

I don't think we have to worry about Poole pushing anyone out of a starting spot. Even though he's decent, he's never hauled in as many passes in one year as Sly did last year.

If anything, he gives us solid insurance and he pushes everyone else to get better.

Well, if he's cheap I see no problem with it. The impression I've gotten is that Ricks is as good as gone and I have no faith that Parker will do anything. Originally I was against the idea of taking Poole, but now I'm thinking it can't hurt to add some veteran depth.

HC_Chief

Agreed. Poole would be a SOLID #3 for us. Currently, we have a rookie slated in that spot (Minnis)

Perhaps Snoop will be able to secure the #3 spot in camp - if not, we'll have a solid vet. Competition breeds excellence :)

I'd bet you dollars for doughnuts we'll be seeing Minnis playing the slot, barring injury, starting about week 4, if not sooner.

I still don't think we're going to see a whole lot of 4 and 5 receiver sets (unless you count Gonzo lined up as a WR...), but that doesn't mean we don't need 5 or 6 quality guys.

I'm feeling pretty comfortable with Alexander, Morris and even Minnis (believe it or not, as p!issed as I was originally about signing him...), but after that we have nada.

Horne?

Yikes!

I do think, however, Ricky Hall could get a spot on the team based on what I've seen from him in the few NFLE games I've seen. He's had some horrible QB play (Bishop hasn't looked good, IMO, and the backup SUCKS) but he's still gotten some nice yardage the times he's had the ball thrown his way. Still, though, it's hard to really gauge what his skills are...

MrBlond

I think everyone knows we will bring in a veteran or two for depth. Lose DA to injury and Gonzo is doubled every play. Poole is as good as any that will be available. He fits this offense. He will fit our budget. A good fit, and I bet Carl doesnt pass him up.

Hey, if Parker would do something on the field other than tackle people early on punts, I might like him too... :p

poole isn't nearly as good as HE thinks he is. all i can remember is him acting like a complete idiot back when we played them and he finally beat "mighty mouse" (major accomplishment) and of course the assault charges he received while in N.O. Wish we could find our vet WR depth elsewhere.

what would everyone think of Rison as WR depth. He showed he still had some skills last season.

Rison is a cancer to any team. Heck even the Raiders don't want him.
