DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Trent Green was knocked unconscious with a grade-three concussion -- the most severe -- and he'll undergo further tests on the career-threatening injury to determine his future.

ESPN Radio: Golic's take

ESPN Radio's Mike Golic doesn't blame Texans DL Travis Johnson for reacting as he did on Dolphins QB Trent Green because Johnson was inches from getting his knees taken out. Golic thinks the competition committee has to take a closer look at this. Listen

Green has been ruled out of Sunday's game at Cleveland a day after he was injured against Houston. Coach Cam Cameron declined to discuss the possibility the injury will prompt the 37-year-old Green to retire.

"I don't think we really know the full extent, because there are some ongoing tests," Cameron said Monday. "Right now I just think there are too many unknowns."

Green was hurt in Sunday's loss to the Texans. He was motionless on the field before being carted away and taken to a hospital, but he flew home with the team.

A severe concussion in the 2006 opener sidelined Green for half of last season when he played for the Kansas City Chiefs. Following that injury, there were concerns about his durability when the Dolphins acquired him in June.

Cleo Lemon, who replaced Green at Houston, will make his second NFL start against the Browns. The Dolphins and St. Louis Rams are the only teams with 0-5 records.

The guy should honestly hang them up and spend some time in the booth. He would be a major upgrade compared to what is there now in most cases.

I hate seeing Trent out there being a shell of his former self. It's not worth it, just retire already.

Very sad. I feel for the guy and his family. I hope he will okay and then get out of the game.

He would have already been killed if he was still here in KC behind our swiss cheese line. Trent will do the right thing, good luck Trent.

That's what I've been saying since last season. He never should have come back after the first one.

With all appreciation and respect, I say this: Stay down, bitch. Seriously, somebody who cares about Trent that he'll listen to needs to stop him before it's too late. Assuming it's not too late already.

Hopefully those text messages weren't actual quotes.

I'll make one additional wish: Come back to KC and replace Len Dawson when he retires.

Did I stutter?

Everything you write is bullshit yet you want people to respect you as a author when you can't honor a bet that only lasts 4 weeks?

Do us all a favor and save your bullshit articles for your own website from now on.

Johnson was inches from getting his knees taken out. Golic thinks the competition committee has to take a closer look at this. Oh hey c'mon now I smell a rat... Denver & San Francisco made their fortunes & got their SB rings threatening opponent's knees. Year after year everyone is amazed that the Broncos can plug in any ol' RB & get 1500 yards. Then Oakland takes the worst O-line in the history of the league, installs a Denver knee-crunch system &.... viola! Instant #1 NFL rushing team. Next thing you know... folks are pressuring the competition committee to outlaw knee-crunching. Its a conspiracy!!

This is indeed sad news; it would have probably happened here as well if he had stayed in KC. IMO

I hope he gets well soon; I can't imagine this not marking the end of his career.

I remember the '99 preseason with the Rams where he was 28 of 32 in four games, with no picks. Everybody was like - Who the hell is this guy? Then Rodney Harrison solidified his staus as an All-World dick.

Until this last offseason anyway. Sure wished he'd have accepted the backup spot here to Brodie. He would have made a much better mentor for him than we have now. Brodie would have sure benifited from coming off the field and discussing what happened on the last series with Trent.

Very true. I think it ended for Trent when they came to him in the offseason and asked him to take a pay cut. I'd be pissed about that, too.

I can't decide if it would HIGHLY informative and good or if they'd be slobbering all over themselves.

I'd love to see Trent in broadcasting. I'm still laughing right now about him comparing Belichick to the Jack Nicholson character in A Few Good Men during the cheating Patriots field day.

He's smart, funny, and has already proven he's pretty comfortable at it in the couple of times he's appeared nationally.
