View Full Version : Brodie's first start - predictions

Count Alex's Losses

Will Herm take the reigns off Croyle and let him throw throw throw? For the majority of the season we didn't appear afraid to throw on early downs despite playing the noodle-armed, limp-wristed Damon Huard.

I can easily see Herm coming up with a run-first gameplan using tons of tight ends and Jason Dunn clones, and limiting Brodie's throws to third down and an occasional shot downfield on first down. I HOPE we don't do this - it would be suicide against the Colts considering our shitty run blocking. We honestly just need to let Brodie jump in with both feet and let him sink or swim. Interceptions be damned!

I'm guessing we'll see more bootlegs and rollouts, and we saw a bootleg on Sunday against the Donks - Brodie overthrew Tony Gonzalez.

Im thinking he uses the same game plan as Huard but Brodie being how he is, will try to make to many big plays. That being said, im thinking 210 yards passing, 1 td and 2 ints and 3 sacks agaisnt the colts.

He'll get a lot of pressure as they try to blitz him like crazy. He'll make some good throws and some bad ones. Overall probably won't be too impressive but it will be something to build on. It will be interesting to see how he handles going on the road against a good team and in a hostile environment.

I agree. I don't care if we go 4-12, I just want to see what we have in Croyle and if he shows enough positive growth to invest a full year with him as our starter. No matter what, we should get a veteran QB in the offseason to cover our butts.

NO, we'll see R2P2 a LOT (run, run, pass, punt).
Our D pretty much kept the Colts in check in the playoff game last January until the 4th quarter and that's with no rest at all (we didn't make our first 1st down until the 3rd quarter) and without Donnie Edwards and Boone.

I think with the Colts playing without Harrison and Clark, we smother Wayne and Addai and lure the Colts into a BucBall contest. As long as the score does not get out of hand (it shouldn't), Croyle may get a generous dose of a (feeble) rushing attack to balance out his passing. On paper, we should kill these guys (Bowe + Gonzo + our 2nd string WRs are better than their 3rd stringers).

That said, it will be an order too tall for young Mr. Croyle who will impress but fail to win.

22-39 for 188 yds, 0 Tds, 3 INTs, 4 sacks

13/24 for 104 yds, 0 TDs, 2 ints, 1 sack. Priest 21 carries for 76 yds and a TD. Now if our defense can just come up with 6 Ints, Drummond with 2 kick return TDs and Vinateri miss the game winning chip shot field goal, we have a formual for success. Holy sh^t I had not realized how pathetic SDs O was Sonday night. I bet the Defense players would have been ready to kill Nory had Vinateri not choked.

Did you watch the game Sunday night????

With his best receivers out, Manning throws SIX, count 'em, 6 INTs and loses to a team in free fall decline. Clearly, the Colts are vulnerable in the passing game without Harrison and Clark.

Go ahead and spock me, buddy, but between the way our D played Indy last January and the the way Manning's weapons are depleted, we should beat these guys on paper. Bowe + Gonzo are at least as good as Wayne + their back up TE. I admit, they own us in the rushing game, but if Priest gets a feel for how they are playing him, we might make some noise...

It won't matter how well Brodie plays, when we can't defend the middle, 15 yards from the LOS, Manning's sweet spot.

One thing we're missing on offense, is the play-action-left-roll-right-bootleg pass. Screw the pocket when it has two massive holes in it. Even Huard could have gotten away with it, at least six times during each of the last two games.

I think Brodie goes 22-35, 2TD, 2INT (one in a last ditch drive to try and tie at the end.)

This will be a tough game to win. If Brodie is hot it might be competitive, but the concensus will be that he won't do well. The Colts are a good team, we are not. (everynone here knows that deep in their heart, but we want them to be better ... this Sunday is the first step at getting better.)

Yep, the great Manning threw 26 interceptions in his first year of play. The next year the Colts went 13-3.

We are playing for 2008. Hopefully Croyle will use this time to learn not to throw off the back foot, when and when to not try to strong arm a throw into a tight spot. Learn to make better and faster progressive reads at live NFL game speed.

Exactly.
C'mon, folks - Indy started Craphonso Thorpe who couldn't even make the team in KC. That tells me the Colts are scraping the bottom of the barrel. 6 INTs is an aberration, granted, but Manning and his receivers are obviously not on the same sheet of music and with 2 tackles down, Jared and Tamba have a shot at heating Manning's pocket up. And let's face it, Ty Law has Manning's #. This game is far from hopeless.

My main concern is that Joseph Addai will pretty much rip right through our soft run defense taking a LOT of pressure off Manning and his depleted receiving corps.

Yep I agree, and I frankly hope he doesn't feel pressure to carry this team on his back. His job right now should be to learn how to play at this level. Forget about forcing throws, making plays and just learn to get the ball to his playmakers. This defintely is the one game that I think we all didn't want as his first start, but he'll have to learn how to play against the elite of the NFL if he plans on being an NFL starting QB.

Yep. And most of that could be true, but it was also true of Huard. The difference is we've seen enough in the few plays Brodie has played this year to see he's able to make plays that Huard can't plain and simple. The intangibles that Huard brings sometimes (toughness, leadership, etc.) Brodie can't learn on the the bench. He's gotta do in on the field.

I can't explain it but a have a good feeling about this kid. (And yes I can call him a kid. :( ) I think he is going to be a huge shot in the arm for this team. Not really carrying the team on his back, but hopefully getting some of these guys who are wearing out a kick in the pants!!
