View Full Version : Bobby Sippio playing this week

This morning on the Tim Grunhard show I heard something which peaked my interest. I wasn't paying attention, and I don't know who is was, but it sounded like Tim was talking to somebody in the Chief's organization. The comment was, "Bobby Sippio has been practicing all week with the first team, and will be playing. He has super glue hands."

Did anyone else hear this comment? I know Webb will be handling returns in place of Drummond. Sippio does have great hands and has likely been working out a lot with Brodie, and can handle his bullet passes, whereas some of the others have trouble. I know Bowe also caught bullets from Russell, and so it makes sense to me.

It could be the case where Brody has better timing with Sippio since they are both 2nd string and he's been throwing to him in almost all practices.

Still though, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Missed it, Mr. GarySpFc, I'm sorry to say. But that seals the deal. Chalk this one up as a W.

We are going to go through the Colts like a buzzsaw through blubber. There will be little blubber pieces everywhere ... stuck to the scoreboard, under the seats, behind Manning's upper front bridge ... they'll have to evacuate the city.

Still though, I wouldn't hold my breath.

That's good advice for the rest of the season on almost everything. The end of this season's going to be like a blind date, might be ugly, might be hot, we might get lucky, we might have to go home and take a "shower". Most likely, though, it'll be somewhere in between.

parker is a ghost.

What's funny is that Parker for once actually seems to be catching everything thrown his way. Problem is, nothing has been thrown his way since about Week 2.

I guess we'll find out soon whether that's because Samie hasn't been getting open, or whether Huard just couldn't get him the ball.

That is true, huard looks at 1 reciever, usually Gonzo and then dumps it off or takes a sack.

Good point. It has appeared as though Samie's game has improved. But, as you say, it's difficult to tell.

I have no idea where to find such a stat, but I'd be interested in seeing how the Downfield-led Chiefs rank in passes attempted to wide receivers vs. backs and tight ends.

I'd like to see our 3 WRs to be Kennison for the deep stuff, Bowe for the over the middle stuff and Sippio for the short, quick passes. Webb can be the 4th WR who could fill in for all three. I'm no expert, but that's the way I see it.

This is how I would have our receivers-
1. Bowe-Parker as sub
2. Kennison-Webb as sub
3. Sippio/Webb/Parker equal reps in the slot.

I think Bowe is the only one who really sticks out, and any of the other receivers on our team are good enough to be our #2

Man o man, do I ever love that video. In another forum everyone is like Goatsie, and doesn't think he will ever play in a Chiefs game. One individual said, "Sippio cannot go up and get the ball." I responded, "If you look at the video you will see him jumping over the top of one defender to get to the end zone." Seldom do you see any player that determined to get into the end zone and score.

BTW, was it Goatsie who made a promise to do something radical if Sippio ever got to play in a game as WR?

So why all the Hub Bub until he can show us something...I mean do you guy have a inside track that lets you see how he looks in practice. I doubt we all think he's great. What we really need is a hands guy, third down type of WR we can count on to make the catch 99.9% of the time. Kennison is good, but not golden. Bowe is still a rook even if he's super talented.

There's no real security blanket for Huard/Croyle outside of Gonzo...

Why does everyone think Sippio is so great. .

It isn't a matter of Sippio being great. But the following enter into the equation:

1. The fact that Sippio hasn't started yet might not be because he isn't the best guy, but because Herm wanted to go with a safer choice. Perhaps Herm wanted someone that was in the system last year.

2. Webb and Parker still haven't really stepped up.

3. Even though he played in the Arena league, he had great hands. That isn't something that should change in the NFL. Sure speed, route running and the ability of NFL CB's will make life challenging, but his ability to pull in a ball shouldn't change.

4. He's got a cockiness and swagger people like. Calling Bowe a "rookie" all during Hard Knocks was kind of funny coming from a guy that couldn't stay on an NFL team for any prolonged period of time.

5. Hope.

Personally, I think it's KC Chiefitis, Mr. smittysbar. 50 years in the desert without a sip of water makes a man a little desperate.

Besides, Sippio makes a great story. A young man from a poor family who tries to make it in the NFL as a d-back, told by everyone he doesn't have the tools, goes to Arena League, lights it up as a receiver, picked up by the Chiefs, breaks every NFL receiving record in 6 short years, enters the space program, goes to Mars, builds machine to make breathable air, terraforms planet, renames planet after himself, and opens a day spa for disadvantaged young girls. I mean, what's not to like?

It makes sense to get him in the game, even in the slot.

He catches the ball well...great.

The running game is struggling, and with Priest, they'll be running more sweeps, counters, screens etc, that could use the services of a Big, agressive WR to help seal blocks downfield.

The question is why have these other teams passed over Sippio in the past.

Webb runs a 4.35 40, and has been a project. Unfortunately, his speed doesn't translate into game speed and he does drop some passes.

OBVIOUSLY, the Arena League does not compare to the NFL, no way. However, there are some very good players there, and I suspect their play likely compares with our top unversities. A little history about Sippio is needed.

Bobby Sippio was an All-American defensive back at Western Kentucky. He declared for the NFL draft as a junior, but was overlooked because in the opinion of the scouts he could not back peddle fast enough for the NFL. He later admitted he made a mistake in declaring early. He went into the Arena League as a defensive back.

He was signed as an undrafted free agent defensive back with the Miami Dolphins June 26, 2004 and attended training camp...was placed on Injured Reserve with a knee injury on September 1...waived November 10.

Sippio later starting playing both ways in the AFL, but still did not stand out. In fact he was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Rush from Tampa Bay in 2006. Nobody in the NFL knew anything about him as a wide receiver. It was only last year that he stopped playing defense and focused on being a wide receiver that he became a star and set records.

2006 SEASON: Bobby joined the Rush for the final 5 regular season games and had an immediate impact on the offense after switching from WR/LB to offensive specialist, catching 38 passes for 654 yards and 17 touchdowns. Overall in 2006, he caught 93 passes for 1,320 yards and 35 touchdowns all career highs.

finished 6th in the AFL in scoring with 222 points.

caught 33 passes for 452 yards and 10 touchdowns in the playoffs, including 10 receptions for 110 yards and 3 TDs in the ArenaBowl vs. Orlando on June 11.

named Offensive Player of the Game and AFL Offensive Player of the Week for his record-setting performance May 6 vs. Utah ... caught 10 passes for a Rush record 217 yards and tied his own Rush record with 6 TD receptions.

named Offensive Player of the Game April 23 vs. Las Vegas after catching 8 passes for 168 yards and a Rush record 6 TDs

made his Rush debut April 15 at Arizona, catching 7 passes for 139 yards and 3 TDs.

I have read from former Arena league guys in the NFL that Arena plays faster then the NFL..

As for 4, sometimes things do not work out like they are suppose too when you are on a team.. Look at Horn here, he couldn't cut it here but went to a team that actually wanted to try and achieve his potential..

I think a lot of good players get held back by either the system or the coaches because of loyalties or just to damn afraid to play younger players..

Kind of like your illegal torrent videos of the Chiefs games.. Hopefully nobody gave them your name, where you work at WPI, your IP address and multiple screenshots of your admitting to illegally giving out the games on the internet to the Chiefs and the NFL office..

This is getting to be an obsession on your part, Valiant.

Newsflash: The Chiefs know who I am. They have my videos. They love them.

Give it up.

I said something about him scoring a touchdown...don't remember what, though.

You need a new sense of humor. I listen to Grunny most mornings, and I know Rhonda's voice. It was not her. One other person heard the caller, and identified the caller as a man.

It was Dan Dan the Fantasy Man, he was advising everyone to dump Dante Stallworth for Bobby Sippio...I kid. It was R***** M*** that gave Tim the news, she said Webb had been taking the kicks in practice and that Sippio had taken some snaps with the 1st team. Either way, I hope he gets on the field and we throw him slants until Indy stops it.

When Sippio only plays special teams, or maybe gets 5 snaps max - are we going to say Herm is a liar?

Please remember, Holthus said this. Herm didn't. I personally doubt he plays at all.

In another forum 3 individuals confirmed they heard the announcement that 4 individuals are going to receive extended playing time, and one included Sippio who will start.

If Sippio is "starting" it sounds like we're going spread offense. I can't imagine he'd start over Kennison.

It sounds to me like we want to use Sippio, Bowe and Gonzalez to victimize Indy's small defenders. They are a good defense, but they're all a bunch of friggin' midgets.

I don't know why he hasn't played yet, I mean it looked like he had great hands. I'd rather see Sippio activated then Drummond and let anybody else on the team return kicks in his place.

What's funny is that Parker for once actually seems to be catching everything thrown his way. Problem is, nothing has been thrown his way since about Week 2.

I guess we'll find out soon whether that's because Samie hasn't been getting open, or whether Huard just couldn't get him the ball.

It could well be the latter. Samie was running many routes more than 20 yards past the line of scrimmage, and Huard's shoulder could only handle so much stress...

And I believe so did Sims (while he was healthy).
Seems like Sims started right out of the gate, had a decent game or two, then got hurt and was ruined forever. I remember one quote out of San Diego's locker room (don't know who said it) that was something like "they need to put that guy in a cage".
Then he sucked.

Best Wide Receiver: Bobby Sippio Chicago Rush: Sippio is the most dominant player in the whole league. He can change games with his highlight calibar catches and his speed. Plus 50 plus touchdowns shouldn't hurt. The NFL should come calling soon.

well I don't know about the first point but I know there's a certain probability that with the second point already proved we'll find out soon if sammie can get open.

I like that when croyle came in suddenly bowe's numbers doubled on the first drive, and our first down percentage went from 30% to over 50%, the stats were immediately impacted in some good areas.

I'm excited to see the kid start.

Yea and I remember we started getting FIRST downs. Something we didn't do in the first half. I'm stoked about Brodie geting his start this weekend even if it is against the Colts. I think it's going to make Brodie a better QB with this kind of experience to start his career.

Part of the first down percentage was likely due to the enemy defense playing soft, Mr. CrazyCoffey. It's really difficult to tell what the same quarterback could and would do in the first quarter when each team is trying to impose their will on the other.

et tu brute?

So you're one of "them" - personally I think the "soft defense" argument was nearly never there to begin with, but to think Denver was playing soft when a new QB entered the game near the beginning of the third quarter against a hated rival, well it's just not Fax like, Mr. Fax.....

The thing that excited me the most about Croyle was when he over threw Bowe by half the length of the football in the endzone. The more they work together and the more experience Brodie gets, the more those type of things will happen. Being able to hit a guy in stride like Bowe will give us that "Favre like" possibility to hit a HR at any time for six. Opponents will have to respect that especially with a full compliment of recievers. Now this won't happen over night and he has got to have some time to throw it, but this is why he needs to play. When or if that develops then our run game will really come back. Sprinkling in some O-line wouldn't hurt things either. With his arm strength and quick delievery he can make a play down the field without the line having to hold their blocks as long. I timed his five step drop compared to Huard's and it is about half a second faster. That will make some plays and keep his rather frail frame from getting knocked around as bad. He's going to have to protect himself because this line can't do it. He needs to drop, run through his progressions, and fire the ball! No Huard dance hopping!! With that there will be "can you f**king believe that throw" and "WTF was he thinking!!" Either way I'm excited for it.
