Its always popular to bash and deride the Prevent when it doesnt work, but everyone ignores it when it does exactly what its supposed to do. Oakland has the ball at about the 35 with 1:47 secs, Minnesota goes into full prevent mode except for one blitz mixed in somewhere.

It pretty much paid off by forcing Oakland to take small completions in-bounds. They quickly advanced past midfield to about the 40, but the clock bled away to the point where they were forced to just throw a desperate bomb with time expired.

The refs ran off 10 seconds after calling a false start during a Culpepper spike with 12 seconds left.

Great. They got 1 heave into the endzone instead of two. That penalty was just the cherry on top, the Prevent beat the Raiders.

Works great against teams that suck at managing the clock. Take the Chiefs, for example...
