He still has the moves but he doesn't have the speed. He had some great holes today that he couldn't get through.

Too bad, because his vision is still great.

It was in response to the "OMG we need LJ back in the worst way" post...it isn't gonna change much regardless of who's back there..

We have Holmes who tries hard but is just old now and is what you can expect....and LJ is rapidly declining. It kinda sucks.

Running a sweep against a D like Indy has is really stupid to begin with.

shaneo69
11-18-2007, 03:10 PM
Actually, I don't know if it was the o-line's fault, but the LB's were just standing there waiting for Priest on the draws, like they knew it was coming. Kinda like we all knew it was coming...

Because they now realize that whoever is back there is going to have a YPC like that. Its not the runningback.

Yeah, the Chiefs are really missing all of the long runs Larry has been breaking this season. It's amazing to see little Priest actually pick up a couple yards behind the same line Larry continually couldn't run behind.

Did Priest have an amazing game, no, but maybe Larry can at least see how to wiggle for a couple of extra yards before he hits the ground from an ankle tackle.

Because many do not believe it is the fault of the runing back. It is the fault of the o-line and/or the OC. Get with the program, geez.

It partially is.......lets understand real fast. 1 guy is 34 and hasn't played in 2 years the other guy is rapidly declining from a coach who thought overworking him was smart...

It's not like we got Marion Barber back there.

I think it is because the line can't sustain a block.

shaneo69
11-18-2007, 03:13 PM
yes, he did

I think you're confusing the fact that he was able to get to the LOS without getting tackled with good blocking.

I miss the way LJ would run into the backs of his blockers, get pissed about it and slam the ball down.

Call me crazy, but something that might help the running game with "either" back is if we tried to extend the field a little.

Good work Solari.

Even Adrian Petersen would have similar numbers with this team not stretching the field, repeatedly running on 1st down, and not getting much done with the OL.

Perhaps if we had some deep threats that would work..Tom Brady could be out there...still need someone who can spread the field and catch the ball...Bowe is currently our only deep threat.

Indy runs alot of cover two from what I hear, so it is hard to throw the 40 yard deep ball on them.

However I think those 15-20 yard post strikes Croyle had, and take those times 3 may have opened it up a little more.

They are crazy if they think this Oline is going to be able to run block against 8 guys in the box.

About the playcalling that included trying to run sweeps against a fast defense while we ran up the middle against "larger" defenses, that makes sense. It is not about who we are playing against, it is who is playing RB.

How many people around here were pissed last week because they kept running Priest up the middle? It was all about how that is not his strength, etc. Well guess what, they tried to play to his strength and get the ball out wide instead of ramming his little self into the middle of the line.

Priest can still be an every down back against the bottom 16 defenses in the NFL. This was a really stout D (#3 in the NFL) in their house. I was pretty disappointed that we didn't rip the Invescos run D at home. Tennessee will shred it tomorrow night.

He still looks good. I dont think he's slower because he's never really had great speed. But it is clearly obvious that we don't have the line we once had, which given his great vision and ability to make the first group of guys miss, is his biggest problem.

Obviously I have only seen the game the one time, but it seemed like Priest had an alright day. Numbers-wise, he wasn't that impressive, but there were a couple of times where he was able to get 2 or 3 yards by slashing and darting through tiny little holes that you can easily see a lesser back getting stopped at the line.

Today I actually saw a few steps forward. I'm disappointed with the loss, but I'm actually optimistic about the teams future, as long as we commit to actually TRYING to get better, and leaving the "small ball" attitude behind us.

Priest still looks good. Can't really judge him without a fullback and a line thats played more than one game together. Most good running backs have a great fullback in front of them.

True.
My point was that our overall offensive scheme can only achieve against lower tier defenses. Priest has lost a step. Perhaps he'll sharpen some of his game day skills over the next few weeks. He's only been back what? 3 games?

Some of you guys just don't know anything about football. Welbourn and Terry are just awful, Weigman is ok at best, Waters is solid and McIntosh is solid. The O line is a complete joke as a unit. It doesn't matter who is running behind it.

Croyles sack/fumble was because Terry performed an Ole block on the End who was rushing the passer. Ball game.

scott free

Priest goes for 100+ today with a professional O line & an OC who doesnt need a helmet when mom takes him to the playground.

I think sometimes people get caught up in the way shit looks and not what happened. That CB atleast stopped the ball. More than our corners have done. Atleast that dude was flying over there and forced priest out with no extra yards. Sometimes when you are just coming out someone you are going to get rocked.
