KFFL reports a 1-year deal worth $477,000 and some incentives. No signing bonus mentioned.

*Clap clap clap*

Good signing, assuming he's healthy. Either way, if he sucks, we can cut him loose with no sweat. If he's good, we got ourselves a bargain...

Excellent, DA has a running mate. Decent speed, good size, and good hands for a decent price. Good move CP.

How will Pacfan lambaste Peterson on this one?

i'm sure he'll find a way...

Not a bad signing... nice price as well.

Has anyone heard any updates regarding Denver and Eddie Kennison? I know that he signed, but I was reading an article a few days ago and the writer was addressing the Denver WR position... talked about everyone except Kennison. Even talked about Keith Poole and he signed after Kennison.

Have I missed anything? Maybe it was just 'writer's block' and he omitted the name.

I dunno, but i do know that I read a blurb today stating that they were very impressed with one of their draft picks at WR (forgot te name) and that he was catching everything in sight and might force Denver to have to keep him even with their already crowded WR corps, so it is possible that either Kennison or Poole or someone might wind up being cut if they don't break the top 4 positions. I was also reading about Terry Glenn and how he believes he is now a free agent since the Pats withheld his bonus, so they are filing a grievance. If I were Carl, I would conserve as much cap room as possible with an eye towards a quality veteran reciever or two that might be released during training camp, while keeping my eyes open for another corner and interior lineman...

DaWolf - Kasper is the guy you referring to. Naptown (aka jl80) was all over this guy's wagon pre-draft. He has a ton of potential - he looks to be another great late-round steal for the hated donkos

HC,

If you go back You'll see that Kasper was my choice for WR.....He was fast, had absolute ball stabbers for hands and is tough...he's just white. I have no doubt that Denver made a steel when they drafted him....

~kasper will be the next Wayne Crebet.

Some interesting notes in a glimpse back from Packers.com (surprised he's still on there):

Pro Summary

Continues to demonstrate superb hands and an almost uncanny ability to make tough receptions in traffic
One of the most talented receivers on the roster, has shown glimpses of greatness and is looking to put together a full season after injuries have curtailed a portion of each of his three previous pro seasons
"He has been injured a lot," says new Green Bay wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett. "And he is not getting the production that his ability warrants. But Derrick is working hard on the things that I think he can improve on - as far as route running, being in the right place at the right time and doing the right things in the offense. As far as the injury bugs, I think he's conscious of those things. He's going to come in and be in the best shape he's ever been in this year, so he doesn't get injured. He needs to play for a full year and show that he can be the kind of receiver we need. He's got the ability to add a lot to this offense, no question about it."
Suffered a shoulder injury as a rookie, ankle injuries in 1997 and a knee injury in 1998 - all keeping him from significant playing time
After wearing the number 1 in college, chose number 80 for the pros as a salute to personal friend Lake Dawson (formerly of the Chiefs), who was his immediate predecessor as Notre Dame's go-to receiver and who also wore that number for Kansas City

I wanted Kasper, of course I tend to lean that way cuz he is an Iowa product, but the guy has hands, speed, and great awareness. He is in my opinion, a mirror image of Tim Dwight who was his mentor for a few years. Tim is also awesome just never got his chance to play much receiver in Atlanta even though when he was in, he would make awesome grabs and pull in the long bombs.......I was rooting for us to acquire him in the draft.

Aturnis
-Somehow never gets his Iowa boys on the Chiefs roster in recent years. (Exceptions......Danan Hughes and Tim Grunhard)

Da Wolf,

The guy Vermeil wanted in the second round was Chris Chambers out of Wisconsin. I think Miami drafted him. It will be interesting to compare Minnis to Chambers this season and seasons to come. If we had gotten Chambers, we would not have gotten Minnis.

LUZAP,

Yer' talkn' to a 'Noles fan here...."Snoop" was a consistent producer in the passing game, yet obviously not an effective blocker. He was one of those rare players that played his best in big games, raised the level of play of his whole team, and kept the crowd in the game. I only got to see three games this year, but the guy is fast. Speedy, as in quickness and not track speed. He's elusive, and has hands as good or better than Lockett had.

He's essentially a more elusive and sure handed Lockett. Great guy for that third down conversion, explosive, and I'd have pictured him going to a West Coast offense team. YAC, etc....

Yep, Duh-catur co.....but at least its not "HO-seola" ;) I stop at the Casino on the way to the folks sometimes....I think we had a "do you know" conversation once.... I used to hang a little with a couple of gals from Murray in college....S.Carper ring a bell? Drop me an email if you'll be in the area on a weekend and maybe we could have a beer.(if I'm back too)

Wasn't John Alt a TE at Iowa that converted to Tackle? Iowa is pretty know for doing that....and I think they did it with a kid last year too.

He's gotta be thinking of Criswell.

Hawkeyes that have played for KC in that past decade or so:

Alt
Hughes
Hayes
Vlasic
Weigmann

That's all I can remember.

alphacroon

Luzap,

I don't know how I did it, but I have two signons now..Alphacroon and Alphaman. A-Croon pops up on my work PC and A-Man pops up at home.

To answer your question, I think Minnis will be very good. It seems that the main two characteristics for this offense are quickness and hands, of which he has both. He and Mayes will get plenty of opportunity to prove themselves early in the season as teams will double Alexander and Gonzalez. If Mayes and Minnis can make them pay, Alexander and Gonzalez will have big seasons driven by the last 10 games. The first 6 is where Mayes and Minnis have to make other teams respect them.

Hey Roy,

Where at in Duh-catur? Garden Grove? Making meth down there, are ya? I remember SARAH, she was in my class in school. Who else did you hang with, I might know them...

I actually moved to Hoss-eola my freshman year of high school...never fit in with all the pig-****ers in southern Iowa anyway...

Iowanian
07-10-2001, 04:31 PM
htis,

NO.....I don't live in Garden Grove....that town is a true turd. I haven't made any meth yet, but I hear there are some new job openings ;) one of my HS buddies just got busted in Hoseola a couple of weeks ago....that must be some nasty stuff, because he was a heck of a guy and once he got wrapped up....

I grew up on a farm between Leon and Lamoni...went to CD....I knew alot more folks from Osceola than Murray...about the same age....and of course the Weldon/ VW boys....some were cool, others...not so much.

I can't remember the other gals name...she was blond and lived with the afore mentioned female...I'm thinking it was a Jennifer...she was cute and I'm sure from Murray.

My brother worked for the Fisher Ranch up there all through HS.
PigF***ers huh.......I actually liked growing up there...I appreciate the small stuff and most things I like are outdoors.

what area are you in now?

htismaqe
07-11-2001, 10:43 AM
Yeah, just about everybody I used to hang out with is strung out on crank. It ate up 2 1/2 years of my life before I went to Europe to get away from it...

Most of the guys I knew from the Weldon/Van Wert area were on the "not so cool" side...I guess I never saw much point in hanging out in front of Fareway and getting in fist fights...

I'm not too far away, in Pella, but for a small town, Pella is alot different than the rest of southern Iowa...

Iowanian
07-11-2001, 11:13 AM
I know what you mean.....last time I was through that hoseola, the next generation was doing that exact same thing...It wasn't too much different at home except you COULD get a one on one fight once in a while....not so much up there...."pack" mentality or something....I've been in more than one pile up in Clarke Co.

I actually come through Pella fairly regularly...In fact I'll be through early in the morning on my way to give a presentation in Ames.....and I date a gal who lives in Ankeny now.....maybe one of these days I'll drop you an email.....They DO have Beer In VanderPella don't they ;)

You guys stop making fun of pella.

I grew up in Knoxville, and as you know, it's only about 12 miles over the damn to Pella from there. Hell, in Houston, that's close enough to consider one another neighbors.

In my old age, I can finally admit that Pella is a MUCH classier town than Knoxville. Unfortunately, with a last name like "Kloster", they won't let me live there. :D

FWIW, both my younger siblings attended Central. I think Parker is already aware of that, though.
