Whats messed up is, they got the better kicker. They cut their old kicker, we picked up their old kicker. He has been shit for us and now we got a 43 year old kicker.

Chiefs are just destined to be average.

Oh htismaqe, too bad you're not still around to continue our debate about Mason Crosby vs Justin Medlock. ROFL

We could have had their kicker, but we passed on their kicker, so we cut our old kicker, got another kicker, thought about a different kicker, but Herm said he was our kicker, so we cut our new kicker, got their old kicker, cut their old kicker, then we got an older kicker.

Makes sense to me.

Nick Folk made a 50 yarder. He, like Medlock, was picked before Crosby. We could have had him, too. Why doesn't anyone ever talk about Folk?

Because he was off the radar of everyone but me (UofA grad here).

Hindsight is great isnt. This was isn't hindsight. He was a Big 12 kicker. A lot of people had saw him kick for 4 years. I'm sure the Chiefs saw him a lot too. Most everyone agreed he was a better and more reliable kicker than Medlock until the combine when Crosby stunk it up and Medlock did good.

We went with the UCLA grad who performed better for a week over the kicker who had proved it in real games for 4 years. Thats not hindsight.

What are you talking about?

Crosby:
2005 21-28 75%
2006 19-28 67.9%

Medlock:
2005 13-17 76.5%
2006 28-32 87.5%

Thats what I'm talking about. You have to have seen the games. You look at stats only and not what happened on the field your taking Medlock.

Crosby would attempt very long 50 yard+ field goals because on an inept offense. Medlocks kicks were inside the 20 when a UCLA drive would stall.

Hence when they get to the NFL Crosby is use to kicking long and Medlock isn't.

In 2005 Crosby was 16-21 inside 50yds (76%) and 8-11 (72%) from 40-49.
In 2006 if you take away 3 tries from 60yds (all no good) he was still 72% overall (89.5% inside 50). He was 2-6 from 50+ (33.3%).

In 2005 Medlock was 12-15 inside 50 (80%) including 3-4 from 30-39 and 6-8 from 40-49. He was 1-2 from 50+.
In 2006 Medlock was 26-30 inside 50yds (86.7%) including 9-10 from 30-39 and 5-8 from 40-49. He was also 2-2 from 50+.

Because he was just a kicker, not possibly "the kicker" in the last draft like Crosby was.

Medlock was a good kicker in college, just like Sims was a good DT and Gallery was a good OT, etc. The draft is a crapshoot.

It wasn't like Medlock was the Junior Siavii of kickers.

They missed on a 5th rounder. I'm much more concerned about the day 1 guys.
