I went to the doc today and he diagnosed me with this Cluster headache thing..I was just wondering if any other bb members also get them, and hopefully get some relief ideas..

Sorry, I am not a fellow clusterhead. Man, that sounds bad.

My general methods to avoid headaches is to drink a lot of water. ... and to stay regular. When I do get them, I medicate with the cocktail approach - one aspirin, one acetomiophen, one ibuprofen, if it doesn't let up in an hour, I repeat. Disclaimer - I am not a doctor, nor play one on TV.

Joe-
I feel your pain, bro. I have been working in a band for the past 10 years with a member who has had them bad for almost 30 years, on and off.
Every 3 years or so, when they get to where he can't stand it anymore, he takes a trip to Seattle to visit an alternative medicine specialist, who, according to Charlie( the person afflicted), is one of the best in the world at what he does.
I am ordinarily a skeptic when it comes to alternative medicine, but the effect on Charlie when he returns from a two-week course of these treatments is nothing short of miraculous (not to mention that it's not that expensive). He is headache-free for close to two years afterward. By the doctor's own admission, they will slowly return over the course of time-and they do-and then he has to go back. But a span of three or four years is not too bad.
If you're in the Northwest, I can get the name of this person for you, if you're interested.

Accunpuncture/pressure worked for me a few years back.... Visit a Chinatown if you have one near you.... They pinpointed a knot in my hamstring was throwing my back alignment out of whack which was pressing against something in my neck....

They worked the hamstring (which hurt like a mother).... and the headaches went away....

K.C. fan in titan hell, Thanks man..I might need the name..My doc gave me some verapimil ( a heart medication) He says it seems to work on these cluster headaches, however he has no idea why...These things are brutal, every day for the last two weeks I have gotten one..Finally I went to the E.R. and they did a ct scan and ruled out more serious problems. I feel good about at least getting a diagnosis..

Kphob, LOL, unfortunately if they are related, they are SOOOO released from any further liability. ( you should have seen the release I had to sign)

Anyway, time to go watch the Mariner Game...LOL

I have talked at length with Charlie about modern medicine's inability to deal with cluster headaches. His opinion was that they are not prevalent enough to channel resources into a whole lot of research as opposed to, say migraines......thus, now entire sections of over the counter treatments are available for migraine sufferers, and nothing for cluster headaches.

Joe,

One of my employees got a series of spinal injections. 3 years later she is still pain free.

Joe,

Do these things seem to get worse around the middle of July and start subsiding the first week in January? :D

You are right K-phob, If the Chiefs upset us that would be potential for a serious headache...:)

How is your vision? When I was growing up I would get what is described here quite often. My eyes changed (for the worse) rapidly. I would have to get a new eyeglass perscription at least once, maybe twice a year. After my eyes slowed in deteriorating, they went away.
If you find yourself squinting alot, you might want to see an eye doctor.
