The track is far from similar to the others on the album... those thieving birds for example.
I'm also not a big fan of the studio version of IYKLS.. it does sound impressive live - but only because he doesn't have the voice effect and the guitars are much heavier.
Point is, Young Modern is the exact opposite of Neon Ballroom, Freak Show, and even Diorama.. IMO
I'm glad you like the album though. Did you like their others?

Oh, it was fairly popular when it came out, and still makes the occasional TV background music rounds, especially when it's a time travel/Cold case type show that flashes back to the time it was popular.
But given chag's remarks on news from the world of Howard, and them talking at length about the song yesterday, I think I nailed this one. :thumb:

Well then - that shows your age doesn't it. That was a hit song on terrestrial radio before it was known as terrestrial radio. Also I was in radio from 1986-1998. So while Howard played it on the show and I decided to listen to it again, I think it's incredibly short sighted of you to think he dictates how I live.

I was thinking about the spoon album today. It is a pretty odd cd, but not really THAT odd, and it got me thinking what if you are really an odd band, how does a producer know when you "nailed it" I think some of the songs by spoon are sloppy and I wonder if they are better with the sloppiness in or if it would be better without it. Oh well still a sweet band

A video for a song I'm hearing a lot here in the Baltimore area on 98 Rock. The band is Another Animal, it's the guitar, bass and drummer of Godsmack and the singer of Ugly Kid Joe. It's not real heavy, something like candlebox.

I'm 57 years old and I've been burned out on classic rock for about five years since I heard it all when it was new music. I'm now learning a lot about the music of the 90's from this thread, most of it I like except for rap.

I just watched the live video for Antelope 'Reflector' (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=qasnNNGTWyg) on YouTube. That song seemed OK, but they reminded me of a better band I liked in the 80's called the Blue Nile. To compare their sound, listen to a live video of Blue Nile 'Tinseltown in the Rain'. Johnnie Taylor - Greatest Hits

found the album for $5(!) and bought it just because it had a STAX label...knew nothing about him...

awesome...just awesome..."Who do I turn to..." is my new favorite soul song ever...I buy shit I am unfamiliar with all the time just for the thrill of finding that one incredible album...Isaac Hayes and Don Davis were producers on it...

i like to listen to some blue grass or blue grass on speed like split lip rayfield. Just something different I am not a jam band dude, but sometimes youtubing phish, string cheese incident is good background music for surfing or hanging out. Oh dude, then if you want the hardest shit I have ever heard screaming thrash metal with keyboards I have been listening to children of bodom. I am listening to some rockabilly too with some tiger army and reverand hortan heat.

Check out Big Smith if you haven't. Their self-titled album is probably my favorite. Awesome lyrics as well.

Mockingbird Song
(Jody Bilyeu)

Walked along the creek bank--
Had to kick the brambles down.
Stopped to watch a plane fly by
That was towing the sky around
It was towing the sky around.

Grabbed a snake from the water
But his mouth opened cotton white.
I took his head and his skin from his long white flesh
But his coils wrapped my wrist so tight--
His coils wrapped my wrist so tight.

I reached up in a golden branch
To shake the fox grapes down.
A sacred song was in my mouth
But the mockingbird shouted me down--
That old mockingbird shouted me down.

Lay back in a bed of last year's leaves
The whole sky cotton white.
And the crow that coughed his terrible names
Flapped his way out of sight--
He flapped his way out of sight.

The highway back to the city
Just as blank as it could be
And I forgot the snake and the birds
For you waited in town for me--
At least I hoped that you waited for me.

Stood at your bathroom mirror
Knocked your wine glass in the sink
Red wine, red wine everywhere
But not a drop to drink
There was nary a drop to drink

So I went back to that golden branch
But all had been rained down
A sacred song was in my mouth
But the mockingbird shouted me down--
That old mockingbird shouted me down.

Other good slamgrass type stuff to check out would be Yonder Mountain String Band, Mountain Sprout, PoDank String Band, and Steve Earle/Del Mcoury's album Mountain.

And I went with some Explosions in the Sky. Great music to relax to.
