In PFW's "Whispers" section, they quoted an anonymous football front office guy about KC's pro personnel decisions.

ď(Chiefs LB) Kendrell Bell was damaged goods. (DE) Carlos Hall was damaged goods. You get rid of Dante Hall and replace him with Eddie Drummond and think thatís an upgrade? I can outrun Eddie Drummond. You get rid of Lawrence Tynes before you know what you have with Dave Rayner and a rookie (Justin Medlock). You let Kawika Mitchell go right when he is starting to get it and bring in Napoleon Harris ó a lateral player who does not want to hit anyone. Heís been on three teams in five years ó you donít think thatís for a reason? I look at what the Chiefs have done from a pro standpoint, and I have to question their ability to evaluate.Ē

Maybe when he started hanging around Times Square in NYC.

LOLOL..I wondered about that one too, but I found the evaluation interesting overall.

the Blame for the defensive evaluations lie squarely on Gunther.

Although I would like to blame CP for picking the UCLA byproduct Medlock, that was a crapshoot. He was outkicking and more consistent than the other kickers in the combine and in workouts.

This is true. Bell & C. Hall were all Gun. Anyone who watch the Chiefs at all knew D. Hall was done. Kickers, everyone has trouble with kickers

When did Kawika Mitchell start to get it?

Yeah, I'm not sure I buy that either. Not that Nap's really an upgrade, but ...

Bell and C. Hall are all on Gunther.

I still don't mind trading Dante for a draft pick, because I think Dante lost his edge here. But picking Drummond to replace him was a disaster. Did they not scout him in Detroit's camp before signing him? Or did they just think he was the same guy he was a couple of years ago? Phinisee showed more.

The kicking thing, eh. Tynes isn't special, we got a draft pick for him. They whiffed on Medlock. If Rayner had made more kicks, we might've won another game or 2, which actually might be bad -- it would've enticed Carl to think we were closer than we are and put off some rebuilding decisions.

he has decent #s in his 1st yr as OLB for the Giants, and his last yr as a MLB he put up better #s than Harris is likey to put up for us this yr.

If "better than Harris" is all you have, you need to go back to the drawing board. He's just a guy, that's all he ever was.

You can't measure a linebacker by numbers...

Mitchell has been the exact same player in NY he was here, average at his best, but mostly below-average. And he still can't cover for his life.

Come to think of it. Bell or Hartwell? Bell came cheap in the end. Hartwell cost the Falcon's a mint, only to be cut. C. Hall was a dirt cheap project.

And has been mentioned, Tynes & D Hall were traded for draft picks.

On Kiwi & Harris

Brock

So what? They could have hired a guy off the street to do as well as Mitchell did. If you want to complain about Harris, fine. But to act like Kawika Mitchell was blossoming into some kind of stud LB is a joke.

The Kawika vs. Nap debate just proves how incompetent the Chiefs are.

Kawika never developed enough to warrant being a quality MLB. Bad draft pick. They compounded the error by replacing him with a more expensive guy who's really not any better -- he's mediocre in different ways, so their suckage kind of complements each other.

Keeping Mitchell would not have made the Chiefs D better. Nap's contract may prevent it from getting better.

Oh this list can go on and on. Are they just talking about this year?

what about years past? i.e., like when the Chiefs had the worst defense in teh league and then decided to re-sign the Hicks, the Wesleys, the woods to new contracts.

Mitchell was never great, but he wasn't as bad as everyone around here said. He went from not very good at all to adequate but not spectacular.

I'll give him slack since it was his rookie year, its pretty common for a DT to not bust out until like his 3rd year in the NFL.

Brock

i agree, but it something to keep in mind when some are advocating drafting more rookie DT (dorsey or ellis).

Those guys are blue chip. There's a huge difference. Neither one of those guys is any more of a gamble than any other player.

What are ya'll talking about? :D

Mitchell was forced to play weakside LB after working mostly the middle and I believe the strong side in KC. He looked lost as anyone on defense and benched during the first couple of games. However, he fought hard and emerged as a late season playmaker on left side. He has good speed and makes a lot of free plays, especially as a pass rusher on blitzes.

The Giants have depth at OLB position. Mitchell shares the positon with Wilkinson, Tuck and rookie Zak DeOssie. The starters are out for the season.

The Giants 38-21 win over the Bills clinched a playoff spot -- and because of Kawiki Mitchell and Ahmad Bradshaw the Giants, are in the playoffs for the third straight year in a row. Mitchell was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Buffalo.

In Dallas, Mitchell was the only one able to wrap up Barber -- He almost made a good goal line tackle, but Barber made a good move of spinning while falling down into the endzone.

Mitchell and Robbins also sacked Romo for a 14-yard loss late in the fourth quarter. However, Mitchell was penalized 15-yards for grabbing Marion Barber's facemask, but it he didn't draw the penalty -- Barber would have been off to the races.

I got to go to bed --- hope it makes sense. :D

And couple that with wiffing on draft picks from 1999-2002 and thats why we are in this situation now.

They listened to Hicks. We have the talent in this locker room to get it done. Remember that....and then they can't force a friggin punt.:cuss:

I just laugh at those who want to give Herm a free pass. He's made more bad decisions than good ones since his arrival. In this small paragraph alone from PFW, 7 out of the 9 bad decisions listed were made under his watch...And now the "rebuild" will afford him at least 2 more years. Herm Edwards is not a good coach, but he is shrewd.

Amazing what good coaching and development can do. The NYG are on 2nd and 3rd string players in their secondary and are in the NFC championship game. Injuries hit KC and it just becomes an excuse - "what do you expect with that OL. what do you expect without LJ ..."

Can we talk about anything else besides; "if Brodie sucks or needs more time" or "if Herm's and idiot or not" The banter between KU and MU is even getting old.

It's like some twisted chinese torture technique to even come on the board this week......

I'll be back to try and convince you that #55 Kawikahickamickawikkcka is a much improved player. He's shown he's capable of being a playmaker in certain situations.

Who's been telling me that Coach Coughlin stinks and Tynes ain't all that? Great head coach. :D

The guy you need to keep your eye on -- Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnoulo. We stole him away from the Eagles this season. The Eagles defense used to kill us. Not anymore. We beat them twice. #55 Kawikahickamickawikkcka had McNabb eating dirt.

But our big weapon is Spags. He's the reason the Giants made it into the playoffs. Spags makes adjustments throughout the game. He's been nothing short of incredible. Unfortunately, teams already have their eye on him for head coach. Ugh.

Win or lose -- The Giants showed the NFL they're true "Road Warriors." They possess the heart of a lion. No other team came closer than the Giants did to beating America's perfect team.

Yes, he made some decent plays on Romo at the end of the game, but he is commonly out of place in that defense.

In addition, there is good depth at the position -- Mitchell shares the position with other OLBs. The Giants signed Mitchell to a one-year contract at $1M. Cheap.

Kawika Mitchell intercepted Trent Edwards and returned it 20 yards for the go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter of the Bills game. Corey Webster then sealed the victory by scoring on a 34-yard interception return 22 seconds after Bradshaw's touchdown.

Jacobs scored twice and Mitchell's 20-yd INT return against the Bills clinched a playoff berth for the Giants - If it's any consolation to Giants fans -- I can't believe they don't get it...
