You know what I hate: This mantra.

It's the same as "English Literature hasn't been the same since Shakespeare. There's plenty of good films and good books since the "golden age" of each realm. It's just stupid to assert otherwise.

This will be a great movie assuming it follows the Dark Knight storyline....older Bruce Wayne hs been retired - crime is rising - decides to come back....that stuff.....and for once I agree with Goatse - there are a TON of good Batman storylines out there - as well as any other superhero...

Batman Begins was a FANTASTIC film. Loaded with great character actors, terrific storyline, well-written, typical Bat-Toys for Bruce Wayne to use, to create his symbol........Heath Ledger will carry the tradition a step further, it'll be incredible.......

Entire thing shot in IMAX. Saw a piece talking about how they had to custom make a lot of the rigs, dollys and whatnot b/c the weight and size of the camera, but made sure that it wouldn't compromise any of the shot setups.

I'm a little skeptical too about Heath Ledger, but hopefully it will work out because I'm very excited for this movie (which usually equals a let down for me, but I don't think that will be the case with this one!) I was pretty excited when I first heard that Sean Penn was going to be the joker, but we'll see.

Maybe I'm just taking a shot in the dark, but Nolan definitely understands the dark underbelly of Batman, as both a troubled person & as a mythic hero, and the frame of the poster is setup with Batman midframe behind the steel frame. IMO, it's symbolizes prison bars. Batman, being removed from the city and yet watching over it. Never able to be fully incorporated as a normal citizen... yada, yada, can't ever really find a girl b/c he has to keep them at a distance...

Take it for what it's worth, just my thoughts...

I like the darker, grittier direction this new series has taken. And I think Ledger will be great as a sick, sadistic Joker.

I love the lack of "camp". It's obvious this is based on "The Dark Knight", and not the 60's TV show. You can't say the same about most of the previous movies.

Agreed. Nicholsons Joker was great for what it was. It fit right in with the Tim Burton world of Batman.

But that sort of portrayal would be totally out of place in Nolans Batman.

I loved the casting for the first movie and it just gets better for this one. You keep everyone from the first one, except replace Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhal (HUGE, HUGE upgrade). Then you add Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two Face) and I believe Anthony Michael Hall as the Riddler (if internet reports are correct). But then again, I'm happy with just Christian Bale and Gary Oldman, everyone else is just bonus for me.

Sorry, Batman was around before the Crow. I loved The Crow, but if you've ever read any of the older Batman stuff, you'd know the Joker isn't what was portrayed in the TV series or in the 1st movie.

O'Barr more than likely borrowed from them then the other way around.

Anyone that likes Batman should check out the adult books that they had a number of writers pen their own short stories and compiled... very good, IMO.

not quite accurate... read:

Because the movie's second unit team were running behind schedule, it was decided that dummy cartridges (cartridges that outwardly appear to be functional, but contain no gunpowder) would be made from real cartridges. A cartridge with only a primer and a bullet was fired in the pistol prior to the scene. It caused a squib load, in which the primer provided enough force to push the bullet out of the cartridge and into the barrel of the revolver, where it became stuck.

The malfunction went unnoticed by the crew, and the same gun was used again later to shoot the death scene, having been re-loaded with blanks. However, the squib load was still lodged in the barrel, and was propelled by the blank cartridge's explosion out of the barrel and into Lee's body. Although the bullet was traveling much more slowly than a normally fired bullet would be, the bullet's large size and the extremely short firing distance made it powerful enough to fatally wound Lee.

Yeah he got shot by a stunt man IIRC. They thought there were blanks in the gun but it turned out to be real bullets.

They had a whole episode of some crime/news show on this, and as I recall, they had a gun with the blanks, but they also needed a close-up shot down the barrel where you could see the bullet in the chamber. So they had this 'blank gun' with the tip of a bullet in front of the blank and Lee didn't know the bullet tip had been put in there for the close-up.

They loaded the pistol with dummy shells that had the powder removed from the casing but still had real bullets at the end. One of those bullets dislodged from the empty casing and got stuck in the barrel of the pistol. The weapons handler (who is the one who bears true responsibility for this incident) didn't notice that the bullet was missing when he removed the dummy shells. After that, the same gun was used with blanks, which have no bullets but powder in the casing. When the trigger was pulled, the powder in the blank propelled the dislodged bullet forward just like a normal shot.

Very sad.

The guy who played Fun Boy was the one who pulled the trigger. Even though he was absolutely not to blame, that sure must be tough to live with.

Here is the full description of the incident from IMDB:

Brandon Lee (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000488/) died during a mishap on the set. A scene required a gun to be loaded, cocked, and then pointed at the camera. Because of the close-range of the shot, the bullets loaded had real brass caps, but no powder. After the cut, the props master (not the arms master - he had left the set for the day) dry-fired the gun to get the cock off, knocking an empty cartridge into the barrel of the gun. The next scene to be filmed involving that gun was the rape of Shelly. The gun was loaded with blanks (which usually contain double or triple the powder of a normal bullet to make a loud noise). Lee entered the set carrying a bag of groceries containing an explosive blood pack. The script called for Funboy (Michael Massee (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0557219/)) to shoot Eric Draven (Lee) as he entered the room, triggering the blood pack. The cartridge that was stuck in the barrel was blasted at Lee through the bag he was carrying, killing him. The footage of his death was destroyed without being developed. Lee is the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000045/), who died in mysterious circumstances before completing Game of Death (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077594/) (1978). See also Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106770/) (1993).
