As Many as 25 Florida State Players May Be Suspended for Bowl
By Mason Levinson
Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- As many as 25 Florida State University football players will be suspended for the Seminoles' bowl game against Kentucky in the wake of an academic cheating scandal and other infractions, the school said today.
The Seminoles meet Kentucky in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee, on Dec. 31. Both teams were 7-5 during college football's regular season.
After the cheating scandal came to light earlier this year, the Tallahassee, Florida, university conducted a six-month investigation before reporting its findings to the National Collegiate Athletic Association in September. At least 23 athletes in various sports were involved in the scandal, according to the Associated Press.
Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, who has more wins than anyone in the history of college football's top division, confirmed that many players will miss the game.
``Some of our players will not travel with us to the bowl game,'' Bowden said in a statement. ``We have some players not traveling for one reason and some for another, including those who are ineligible for the bowl because of academic issues. We cannot be more specific at this time.''
Many of those found to have cheated will also miss games next season, AP said.
