Damn, you know what, I saw Journey 4 or 5 times during the 80's on tour, and if they come around with that kid, I'll buy tix.

stage presence kind of sucks but the vocals are great. He is a good match.

Journey was the one 80s band I loved but never got to see. I might drop some change if they come around with him.

I can tell the guy has been growing up on those songs.

He sounds good, but I doubt if I'd go and see them without Perry. Just wouldn't be the same. I wouldn't want to see Boston without Brad Delp, or Queen with Freddie Mercury, either.

Yeah, I tend to feel that way too. But, with Journey, for me it was never about Steve Perry. If you sound like him, that is good enough for me.

When Genesis tried to go without Phil though, UGHHHHHH!

I agree, the dude has some range but not much stage presense.

from wikipedia:

Videos of The Zoo performing cover songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, Kenny Loggins and other popular acts from the 70s, 80s and 90s, began appearing on YouTube.com in February 2007 and now number more than 200 in total. In August 2007, Neal Schon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neal_Schon) of Journey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_%28band%29) contacted the YouTube member who uploaded many videos asking for contact information for Pineda. Pineda, along with his manager, Bert de Leon, flew to San Francisco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco) to audition for Journey later in August, 2007.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnel_Pineda#_note-3)

On December 5, 2007, Pineda was announced as the lead singer of Journey. El Mercurio Online in Chile notes that Pineda will appear with Journey at the Festival de Viņa del Mar at Quinta Vergara Arena in Chile on February 21, 2008.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnel_Pineda#_note-4) Pineda will also perform with Journey on February 23 at Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago, at Grand Hotel and Casino of Viņa del Mar on February 24, both in Chile, and in the US at a private Remax Convention event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on March 6, 2008.

Journey and renowned producer Kevin Shirley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Shirley) are currently in the studio creating a new album which he is producing, for release in spring/summer 2008. In his online diary, Shirley described the recording sessions as "wonderful, successful, stupidly creative" and said that "Sometimes you just know when there's history in the making."[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnel_Pineda#_note-5) In a statement on December 5, 2007, Shirley said "I was stunned at Arnel, who is a monster vocalist. He is the real deal. Just phenomenal."

In his blog, Kevin Shirley wrote "Just got back from Vegas last night, after mixing seven new Journey songs. They are outstanding... For the record, I think Arnel is 'the business!' - the guy can really sing! He handles the ballads with SO much heart, and belts the rockers as hard, and melodically, as anyone I have heard. The songs are sensational - wonderfully crafted and deep, and so focused, you may wonder where they all came from. And I'm being serious...."

or Queen with Freddie Mercury, either.

What? You mean you're not interested in the Paul Rodgers version of Queen?

For 99% of the bands out there I would probably say the same thing except for Journey and Queen, and here's why. Since Steve Perry left Journey after the 1995 album they've had a singer named Steve Auguri from 1998 to 2006, when he quit for medical reasons and now apparently they've found his replacement. Auguri appears on this Journey 2001 DVD, it's a show recorded December 2000 in Las Vegas and it's fantastic. I saw Journey in 1980 on the Departure tour and I've watched the 1981 Live in Houston DVD with Steve Perry many times, and this Journey 2001 show is really good. My wife and I have watched it at least 50 times over the last five years.

Last year when Queen toured with Paul Rodgers, I thought that wasn't even close to being a good match. However, since I picked up the DVD "Return of the Champions", my wife and I have seen it at least 20 times. I own two other DVD's with Freddie Mercury and actually this one with Paul has become just as fun to watch. Check it out if your looking to buy something different.

Man, Going immediately from crappy deserted bars and a lousy band to crowds in the thousands and a group of top-notch musicians. Yeah, I guess he paid his dues. :)

Reminds me a ton of this flick:

Ironically, the singer Mark Wahlberg lip-synced in that movie was Jeff Scott Soto, former Malmsteen frontman, who actually had the Journey gig earlier this year. Soto was the one that replaced Steve Auguri in 2006 but for whatever reason it didn't work out and he left Journey and that's why they needed a new singer again.
