It'll be tougher for Stewart. Colbert improvs better and he's got a whole schtick to work with.

"We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence."
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

Does this mean they're totally ****ing over their writing staffs?

No. Assuming they're under the same circumstances as Leno, Conan, and Letterman, they would've been forced to lay off non-writing staff members if they didn't get back to work. While the writers want and deserve more money, it shouldn't come at the expense of the jobs of the other workers.

They should be writing their own stuff for shows like that anyways.

Agreed, but you'd have to be pretty quick to be able to write 20 minutes of material in only a few hours, not to mention that they do it every day.

Something tells me they can handle it. They are funny guys with a great sense of humor. I don't think they will fail. having done stand up helps them too.

I think they're both WGA members too though, so they won't be writing either. The show will be different.
