If you haven't had a chance you need to watch Metro Sports' Danan Hughes' brilliant breakdown of the Chiefs multiple special teams errors yesterday. On the punt block, Boomer Grigsby went to a man blocking scheme, when the situation clearly called for a zone, umbrella scheme (special teams 101). Hughes showed another punt play for the Chiefs where Colquitt did a good job of pinning the ball down inside the 10 and with the Detoilet return man getting out of the way of the football, the Chiefs had 7 players inside the 10 in position to down the ball, but all 7 players essentially gave up on the play rather than scrambling behind the return man to be in position to down the ball.

Hughes also showed a kick return where the Chiefs wedge blockers were spaced too far ahead of Drummond, not giving him a chance at a productive return.

All of these are basic special teams plays that most teams perfect in the preseason... while the Chiefs still struggling with, in the second to last game of the regular season.

Very Mike Stock-esque

true ... we suck at virtually every aspect of special teams except for Colquitt's punting.

i've seen no reason to keep any of the coaches other than a slight improvement in drafting that you should probably credit to Herm.

Mike Priefer has been a total and unambiguous failure.

Yea this is pretty easy to see, the special teams coach is awful. We suck at returns, we suck at covering kicks, our kicker sucks.

Special teams is all coaching and ours suck...time for a new guy.

OC is a bigger coaching need IMO, ST need is mostly at one spot, Eddie D. - What a flop!

If anyone knows special teams, it's Danan Hughes. Loved that guy.

We need to get us a Gansz back. Doesn't matter which one.

Um...Drummond sucks at returning because the blocking and the schemes are awful. That's coaching, there's a reason every guy the Chiefs put back at returning sucks at it...

E.D.'s fumbles are a result of bad blocking?

I think Drummond sucks because he sucks.

Our blockers don't make him lose yards or catch punts at the 5 yard line.

Also, his numbers are only.8 yds/ret off from last year with a different unit.
