Texas vs Arizona State; Holiday Bowl; 8 PM ET; ESPN… It may officially be the Holiday Bowl but or the two teams it might just as well be the “Wish we were somewhere else” Bowl. Texas, of course, enters each season thinking of a BCS bowl if not the national championship itself, while Arizona State had its own BCS aspirations until late in the season. That said, this could be a pretty good football featuring two of the better young QBs in the country in ASU junior Rudy Carpenter (#12, 6-2, 200) and Texas sophomore Colt McCoy (#12, 6-3, 205). In fact, many of the best players in this game are underclassmen including juniors RB Jamaal Charles (#25, 6-0, 200), WR/KR Quan Crosby (#6, 5-10, 200), and DE Brian Orakpo (#98, 6-4, 250) and sophomores LB Rashad Bobino (#44, 5-11, 230) and TE Jerimichael Finley (#16, 6-5, 236) of Texas.

This game did have the potential for pro scouts to look at a couple of first round prospects for the 2008 draft, but both WR Limas Sweed and OT Tony Hills of Texas are out with injuries. There are, however, several other players pro scouts will be watching. Texas DT Frank Okam (#97, 6-4, 320), for example, has the physical potential to be a top pick, but has never quite played to that level, while DB Marcus Griffin (#26, 5-11, 205), the twin brother of 2007 Tennessee first rounder Michael Griffin, is a solid all-around safety. Meanwhile, Texas C Dallas Griffen (#67, 6-4, 290), DT Derek Lokey (#96, 6-2, 290), and LB Robert Killerbrew (#40, 6-1, 230) are solid second-tier types. Arizona State also has a number of decent prospects including FS Josh Barrett (#19, 6-2, 230), who could get a look at OLB at the next level, CB Justin Tryon (#4, 5-9, 180), DT Michael Marquandt (#77, 6-3, 295), LB Robert James (#29, 5-10, 230), C Mike Pollak (#76, 6-3, 295), OT Brandon Rodd (#62, 6-3, 305), T/G Zach Krula (#6-6, 320), WR/KR Rudy Burgess (#3, 5-9, 190) and TE Brent Miller (#87, 6-5, 240).

Frank Okam, is like a typical Texas player, big hype no substance...

I really dislike drafting guys from Texas for all the hype a billion of those guys have had coming out they've had far more busts than hits.

They have their share of busts, but they've got plenty of good players in the league. Roy Williams, Derrick Johnson, Shaun Rogers, and Nathan Vasher just to name a few.

Oddly 2 of those guys weren't even largely hyped Vasher wasn't at all.

Texas just seems to have a bad history of even if the guy turns out alright he's never what he was suppose to be like Quintin Jammer.

No Sweed or Hills, Okam might be worth watching if anything else as well as Justin Tyron(CB ASU).

Yea those 2 guys didn't have the huge hype they were 2nd round picks...

I'm talking more in the lines of Jammer, Mike Williams, Cedric Benson and those guys. Hell Roy Williams is one of the few highly thought of Texas guys that has had a pretty good NFL career to this point.

This will be a great match-up of Okam going against Pollack. Glad to see, the board taking some interest in the picks. Props.

You statement is way too generalized and very inaccurate.

For the record, many 2nd rounders (and lower)are hyped every year.

Ever hear of Maurice Clarett? What round did he go in? I rest my case.

It just shows how screwed up the rankings are. ASU should be down 50-7.
