Sony BDP-S300 Blu Ray player at $299. They of course have their 5 free movies via mail in rebate as well.

My local Best Buy had several stacks of them yesterday.

It's too bad that Blu Ray is going to lose the format war.

pretty good deal. hd dvd is cheaper. i personally think (eventually) hd dvd will win the war, but it all depends on what you want to watch.

i went hd dvd when i got a kcikc ass deal when sams mistagged a toshiba hd dvd for $170 (normally $350).

if you're looking to go hd anyway, i'd consider the deal.

don't be decieved by the 5 free discs offer... hd dvd has a million of those offers, too. you can find one for just about every hd/bluray player otu there.

Yeah i have an HD A2 dvd player 1080i that i got awhile back for $190 and 3 movies with it for that price on amazon. I was just wondering if i should add this to my media collection since BR seems to have alot of HD type movies i want and i really dont know if i want to pony up for a ps3 anytime soon.

oh yeah.

the xbox 360 is pushing hd dvd sales. blu ray really was counting on the ps3, and sales have sucked so far. too late to catch up, if you ask me.

My inlaws bought me a Toshiba HD-A3 last month for my B-Day.

They got one hell of a deal:

The player was marked down from $299 to $199.

The Bourne Identity and 300 were included in the box.

Circuit City was offering 3 free disks in store with the purchase of that model. They picked The Departed, The Bourne Supremacy and Smokin Aces.

Then I sent off the mail-in rebate for another 5 free disks.

An HD-DVD player and 10 disks for $199.

if you register your product, i think you can get e-mails when they update the firmware.

If you could use that $50 in your bank account, I wouldn't go and spend an extra $250 just to get rid of the gift card. If you do, the terrorists... er I mean retailers win.

Best Buy had the same deal back in November and I picked that up for my father. I already have my HD DVD drive for my 360.

I went with Blu-Ray, basically just because it came free with a PS3 and the Red Ring 'O Death occurred one time too many (OK, maybe 3 times too many).

As far as who will win the format war, go to Wal-Mart, Target, wherever, and look at the BR and HD content offerings. There are about 5 times the BR titles available. Like the console wars, I think content, not price or technology will determine the winner in the format wars.
