View Full Version : What Musical Instrument Do You Play?

I know that a lot of Planeteers have some very special and rare talents including the ability to forecast draft picks decades in advance, perform non-invasive brain surgery, and drink liquor in sufficient quantities to achieve total invisibility in broad daylight.

I also know that many posters have been gifted with musical talent, as well. So, in order to further the goal of mutual understanding and foster good will among all Planeteers everywhere, I am posting up this brand new, informational thread entitled, "What Musical Instrument Do You Play?" in the hope of learning more.

So, what is it? Oboe? French horn? Castenettes?

Please advise and thanks in advance for your kind cooperation.

I told FAX I'd contribute 10 posts to any thread he created, and I meant it.

My dad gave me an Epiphone electric guitar when I was like 13, I didn't really have the patience to stick with it.

My greatest accomplishment was learning to play the intro to Master of Puppets at a much slower pace than required. I can live with that though.

I'd love to learn to play the guitar. Any suggestions on which method of learning to play is the best. There are several videos from several companies available and methods but have no idea which would be the best. Any suggestions from any of you guitar freaks out there?

FreeeeeeeBirrrrrrrrrd!

I'm 20 years out of practice, but like those people in Chinese prisons, I still play it in my mind, so I think I could pick it back up pretty fast. I was one of those people who could play fixed music pretty well, but I didn't bring a lot of individual style and flair to the process.

I'd really like to take piano lessons.

I started playing Clarinet in 6th grade because I wanted to play sax and that's what I was told to do first; I made it to second chair and was never able to change, so I quit.

Since then; I've been playing Drums since I was 15 (twenty years, yikes) and just started learning the Guitar since May this year.

I love music, it is the ear's gift to our soul.....

My great uncle out in backwoods Ohio builds dulcimers and harp-type instruments in his spare time.

He built me this instrument called a "Hillbilly strum-stick". It's pretty odd, and it's sound is a mix between a dulcimer and banjo.

I don't know how to describe it all that well besides saying it has a slender neck, with three strings, and 12 frets. And the body of it is shaped sort of like a triangle. I suppose it's pretty simple and there's a ton of different ways to make them, but he taught me a song on it once, and it's pretty interesting to play.

C'mon guys. We're only in the 60's range, I'm sure we can *drum* up some conversation to push this thing over the top.

Have played lead guitar for 38 years. I own a 1976 Gibson Flying V, a 1991 Jackson Dinky reverse, an Alvarez acoustic guitar, and am buying a bass guitar this week. I've always played thru Marshall half stacks, but have sold them and am buying a small Kustom amp this week. For FX I use a BOSS ME-10 floor unit.
