What do you do to "bring home the bacon". I'm curious and I'm sure others are as well.

Me?

I'm a Network Analyst/Backup Administrator/Antivirus Administrator for a bank in Chillicothe, MO. You'll be hearing more about us soon in Kansas City...Mostly the Northland...in the next couple of years.

This morning I was carrying a Dell 2650 (about 30-40 pounds) and slipped on the last step of concrete stairs. I got a few scrapes and bruises, but the server was alright...thank god!!!

I perform backup duties and take care of the Antivirus responsibilities on each workstation (300+) and server (90+) and provide tech support.

Now, what about you?

Now that that contract is over I aint bringing home any bacon.

So im looking for my next job

Cool! A fellow techie.

I do some AD stuff. Add/remove users/computers, reset passwords, reports, etc. small stuff. we moved all computers to XP last year, but don't intend on going to Vista soon. Too many issues with the specialized programs we run...aren't compatible yet till the vender's get up to speed.

BES Interesting. We just started implementing Blackberries the middle of last year...moving away from Palms and Treos.

Yep. Good. It depends on the margin on the item, but as a rule of thumb, it is 20% on branded items, 40% of private label items. If the margin is lower, the discount is lower. For instance, I got a camera that was only 10% off.

Title: Systems Integrator II

I basically take client software applications and "package" them for for our environment.

Basically, if a department wanted Word on their machines, I have to figure out how to get it to run unattended so that we can push it via SMS and the 1d10ts don't have to do anything but come in tomorrow & fire it up.

Great job with great benefits:
Main (hidden) benefit is I work from home (for the last 3 years). That's like double my salary considering the savings on toothpaste, soap, haircuts, lunches, etc. :D

Try eBay. Seriously.

I worked with a guy on eBay for my film production company -- $50. Within 24 hours he contacted me regarding what my company was, if I had any specifics, etc. Another 48 hours, he sent me 10 different logos (he was required by the auction terms to send 5). If I didn't like any of those, he'd go back to the drawing board. He would do unlimited adjustments until I was satisfied.

Once satisfied, he sent me high-res versions of all logos, setups and color separations for printing business cards, letterhead and envelopes.

Overall, money INCREDIBLY well spent.

Not quite. Been primarily writing media tie-in stuff right now (Marvel Comics related, Midway Games, Star Trek, Dr. Who), but I'm working on selling some original stuff here in the near future.

Been working on a Military SF story that I'm really enjoying. I may have to ping on cavtrp1 to see if he wants to read through it one of these days. It's been a while since I was with the 3rd ACR and I want to make sure some of my tactics make sense to another tanker.

And since I'm reasonably sure Cav can read unlike some of the DATs I was stationed with at Ft. Bliss . . .

Are you pressing down control and alt? While holding those two down, press and release delete... no, don't hold it down. Control and alt, and then tap delete. While holding control and alt.... and then delete. Control. Alt. Delete. :banghead:

A few months ago I started a job that will eventually be up to 100% travel, installing/configuring/testing software for financial institutions. It gets me into programming a little, without having to code 40 hours a week. It'll eventually lead to IT project management/Tech Lead types of positions.
