View Full Version : Obama v The Field
How would you vote were Obama to win the nomination?
I'd like to get more votes... I don't think we have a good representation of the posters on CP yet.
So... err... bump.

I voted Ron Paul although, IMO, your poll is wrong. I know Taco disagrees with me but I would be very surprised if he runs as an Independent. He knows that will just hand the vote to the Dems and he is a Rep to the core and won't do that to his party no matter how misguided he feels they are currently.

Paul is a big-L style Libertarian, and the only reason he switched to Republican in the first place was to get elected. He doesn't give a **** about the best interests of the Republican Party.

For me, it is his views on the economy and domestic issues that attract me. I know that it doesn't matter who gets in office, we are in Iraq for at least the next couple of years so that does not factor into my support.
I am basing my opinion that he will only run as a Republican on his own words on many occassions and the fact that I believe him to be an honorable man who means what he says.

I'm going to bet that if Ron ran as independent, he wouldn't be able to get on the ballot in all 50 states. You can't even write in a candidate in Missouri unless they registered as such, not to mention the herculean effort it would take to win as a write in.

Where is the "anybody but obama" selection?

By Indy, I think he'd most likely run as the Libertarin Party candidate... and unless I'm mistaken, they are or would likely get on the ballot in all states with him leading the Party.

I think your best bet is any GOP over Obama.
I should have also included "I wouldn't vote at all" and maybe "Some other 3rd Party (non-Ron Paul)" as choices.
Oh well.

We're on the Internet, so here is what your poll is going to discover:
Obama is going to be well supported by left leaners here, while the only Republican candidate who will garner much enthusiasm is Ron Paul -- and that Ron Paul would even get the support of those who would prefer a Romney, McCain, or Thompson -- but that transfer of support will not go in the other direction (ie. Ron Paul supporters by and large would rather follow Ron Paul to the Libertarian ticket or write him in than vote for an establishment Republican).

Actually, we are even more narrow than that.
We are on ChiefsPlanet, with a whole host of regular posts, many if not most of whom are either Conservatives or Republicans or Bush supporters.
I am hoping that many of those regular posters will check in and vote accordingly.
I don't really expect the %'s to mean anything (as you are pointing out in a sense). But I'm curious where the regulars are shaping up.

Oh well.hate to be a pest but I vote based on the matchup. I know obama isn't right but I wouldn't say that the GOP is either. Certainly there are individuals that stand out in the Rep party but there are also Ind that stand out.

Not a pest at all. But this was never intended to be a "find the exact matchup that acesn8s feels most comfortable voting against Obama with" poll. :p
