"Sanders did enough to earn 31 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. That was particularly impressive because it was a strong season for individual defensive performances.

Yet next closest in the balloting were Seattle end Patrick Kerney and Tennessee tackle Albert Haynesworth with four votes each.

Also receiving votes were defensive back Antonio Cromartie of San Diego with three; linebackers Mike Vrabel of New England and DeMarcus Ware of Dallas (2); and cornerback Ronde Barber of Tampa Bay, linebacker James Harrison of Pittsburgh, rookie linebacker Patrick Willis of San Francisco, and end Mario Williams of Houston, each with one vote."

Not one vote for Jared.:(

Who is the local media reporter in KC who gets to cast a vote? Whoever it is should know that you've got to make a homer vote in these things, especially when JA was semi-deserving.

no Love for Jared. the two TDs didn't matter or the sacks. we were 4-12.

This is a player award not a team award being 4-12 should not have any thing to do with it.

Was he eligible since he was suspended for two games?

I don't think JA was Defensive Player of the Year (he seemed to have a few too many games with little impact), but c'mon the guy at least deserved some votes...

Merriman got 6 votes last year. Unless rules were changed he should have been eligible.

I think the NFL's sack leader deserved a vote at least

I think IIRC that the NFL policy for the POY awards was changed this last year because of the Merriman backlash. If a player is suspended they are not eligible for the POY awards.

Yeah, umm...that just ain't how it works. You should know that by now if you've been paying any attention at all to how individual awards work in ALL sports.

Idiots have no problem giving votes to one-skill players like Dwight Freeney, but JA can't get one f'n vote even though he dominates in the pass rush AND against the run.

Carl probably told everyone to not vote for him so he could pay him less.

That surprised me as well but then I figured out that he probably couldn't fit anymore people on his dick.

Sanders is supposed to be this hard hitting safety yet, he didn't force one fumble all year.

DPOTY indeed.

You can bring up Sanders stats but the fact remains if you watch the Colts you can see he deserves consideration for this award, I don't have any issues with him winning it.

Congrats to Sanders.

Well deserved.

Just think, we could have drafted this guy instead of Siavii.

Sweet!

I've followed Sanders since his Iowa days. Pound for pound the best defensive football player I've ever seen.

I'd trade JA for Sanders in a heartbeat.

I don't have any issues of him winning it. I DO have an issue that Jared Allen didn't get one vote.

Not even one goddamn f**king vote. Regardless if you're 13-3 or 3-13, obviously this whole Defensive Player of the Year award is a f**king total sham.

Perhaps but who has to propensity to play a 16? Not Bob Sanders.

:spock:

He also single handedly rescued 10 kittens out of a 55-gallon rain barrel...

He may not have had any "big numbers" in sacks and the like, but he was far more consistent than Allen at least. I like JA, and want to see us lock him up for the long haul; he's a great pass rusher, but he does have a tendency to get taken out in the run game at times...

Though if he was eligible, he does deserve at least some votes...

I think IIRC that the NFL policy for the POY awards was changed this last year because of the "roidman" Merriman backlash. If a player is suspended they are not eligible for the POY awards.
That was just for the Pro Bowl I thought.

+1

Not to mention, the colts are totally different teams on defense with Sanders or without.

I think he fits the definition of 'most valuable player' to their team.

The Colts last year, without Bob Sanders, awful against the run..and really not very good defensively.

This year, with a healthy Bob Sanders, they were great against the run and really might have been the best defensive team in the NFL.

Sometimes stats don't paint the whole picture. Sanders is awesome against the run and above average against the pass.

Last year, with a healthy Jordan Black, the Chiefs made the playoffs.

This year, Jordan Black was gone, and we only won four games.

Jordan Black = Offensive POY

That's a way to spin that argument off in a different direction...

In a year where there were really no overly dominant defensive performances, Bob Sanders is a deserving winner.

Safety is completely different than Defensive end..Did teams double team Sanders damn near every play? Don't think so

It's a position where you can be exposed.....ask Bernard Pollard...or that guy from the Steelers who ran his mouth...if you make a mistake as a DB everyone sees it.
