LEAVENWORTH, Kan. Citing an unnamed source, YahooSports has reported that Michael Vick is being transported to a Leavenworth prison to serve a portion of his sentence before entering a drug rehab program run at the facility.

The report says the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, who was sentenced to 23 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to dog fighting, will have to spend one month in the Leavenworth facility before entering the program.

The report also says the program would allow Vick to serve only 12 months of his 23 month sentence.

I saw this earlier and thought making him go to Kansas should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. :)

Getting his sentence reduced by half is stupid.

Damn, that's harsh. Driving across Kansas is bad enough; but to actually have to stay there?

Oh the humanity.

This will make it easier for the Chiefs to keep an eye on him for our future QB needs.

At least the roads are in good shape and the car won't break down like driving through Misery. :p

Since when does smoking pot get you into rehab, and reduce your sentence by 1/2? If it's new, then we've found a way to reduce the prison population, because I'm sure that no other criminal smokes pot.

Nobody else is a little pissed that he can reduce his sentence by 1/2 by admitting to having committed even more crimes?

I'm more pissed that, IMO he used his status as a celebrity to get into a rehab program. I'd be interested to see what % of inmates are drug abusers and if all of them could get their sentence reduced by 1/2.

Besides, we all know he doesn't do pot. That hidden compartment was for his jewelry.

Being in Kansas for 12 months is like being anywhere else for 36 months, so I don't think he's getting off easy at all.

Yeah.

Nothing is going to happen in minimum security anyway, probably. He'll sit around a picnic table with people buddying up to him all day. All they really took away was football. (Though, probably for life.)

Next time I get a speeding ticket, I'll make sure to have them cut the fine in half by telling them my tags are expired too.

The prisoners have probably all built him a life size paper mache pitbull to execute as a house warming gift. It's really a touching notion.

Too bad he'll just have to point his finger and say "bang", and throw a packet of Heinz on the back of it's head to suffice...

Are his visiting hours off limits? Would be pretty funny to go in and see him..

Great game. Will always remember that one. Vick was supposed to run all over us but ended up being on the grass all day long.

Any federal prisoner can apply to the program. Whether or not they accept you is another story. You normally have to show a history of drug use, which he could show with his failed drug test. There's normally a waiting period for the 9 month program, so if he's accepted it will depend on how long the waiting list is there. If it's short he'll get out sooner.
The day he failed the drug test I called Chris and Cowboy's show on 610 and said I thought he failed it on purpose with the idea he could enter the rehab program. I still think that. I think he flunked the drug test on purpose.
