Has anyone ever invested into one of these things. They seem like they could be fun. I would love to go to WalMart and jack up their TV's.

So how does it work? Does it attack the signal input or something else?

As far as I know, it just broadcasts the "power off" signal across just about every possible code system used by TV manufacturers. It's like a universal remote that cycles through every manufacturer and model in a split second.

Just sends out a power off signal for most modern TVs like a normal remote.

Yes, I can see this as being kind of funny in some cases, but I'd kick the shit outta anybody trying this at the bar while I'm watching a game.

Yeah, I had a free program for my palm pilot years ago that did this. It was fun for a while.

The cure is so stupid it's funny. Put some electrical tape over the freaking IR receiver on the TV.

True but they didn't know what was causing the outage

You have to go into these types of shows knowing that people will try stuff like this.

Reminds me of a prank we pulled in high school.

Channel One had just come out, which is a news show with a bunch of corporate sponsors, that will install TVs in all your classes if you'll show the news show (and its commercials) for 5 minutes every day.

So, our school had brand new shiny TVs in every classroom. My best friend happened to have the same model of TV and a remote that worked on them. We played absolute hell with the teachers for a few weeks, and they never figured out that someone had the remote.

Why I decided to become a teacher with all of the prank karma I accumulated during high school, I have no idea. It's definitely coming back to bite me in the ass now.

Channel One sucked. I'm frankly baffled that somehow Anderson Cooper has gone as far as he has after being on that crap.

Kick him in the nads (if the steroids left any that is).
