I don't claim to know much about politics, but I know what I like. I liked Giuliani. Unfortunately the religious right is hellbent on getting McLame into power. So I'm voting for the democrats unless Hillary wins the nomination. What a shitty election year.

You're a dumbass. McCain lost the evangelical vote to both Huckabee and Romney in Florida.

An intelligent response is a waste of time and only feeds into what he wants with this thread. After reading a few of these, its pretty clear to me that he enjoys posting these "thoughts" that are not just wrong, but blindingly obviously wrong to everyone of both parties. He probably just wants to watch the political nerds (including me) scurry around in outrage.
To put it in football terms, its kind of like a Raiders fan coming in and proclaiming that we may have a great offense next year with an awesome HOF QB and solid linemen, but our terrible defense will ruin the season.

What the hell is "My Little Pony" doing here?
Clayton, McCain is not a Conservative. He's a moderate who is weak on Illegal Immigration.

You definitely don't know much about politics. McCain and Giuliani are pretty much the same thing. Neither of them have the religious right behind them. They both attract and repel the same voter bases.

The religious right is pushing McCain?
I really can't figure out how to answer this post in any way that would make sense to anyone who follows politics from either side.

If the religious right is so powerful, how come their chosen candidates are getting destroyed?

If you really want to know I'll tell you. The religious right is not a large group, they simply punch above their weight. To be powerful they have to align themselves with fiscal, social and military conservatives.

Well, I don't know if there's any one real answer to that, but
for a while, the religious right couldn't find a candidate. There was talk of them going third party. The "leaders" or "vocal players" couldn't decide on anyone. Huckabee seemed to get in on the deal too late in the game. By then, a coalition was never really formed. Yes, he appealed to many evangelicals, and got their vote in Iowa, but it's never been that strong. I remember when Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy a while back. That was weird for everyone. We'll probably see more talk in the general election. For instance, if a Republican beats a Democrat, it will in large part be because of the evangelicals worried about SC nominations. That will be the talk, and facts will probably show that Evangelical Christians did overwhelming support a Republican. Keep in mind, I'm not making any predictions that a Rep. will win. I'm just saying IF
Another thing is that they went from Iowa, to New Hampshire then Wyoming and Michigan, places where the religious right doesn't have that much of a presence. If it went from Iowa to Arkansas or Kansas or another southern state, we'd probably see Huckabee vs. McCain or Romney instead of those two.
So those are just some guesses.

I know I tried not to play the game, but which field are you trying to play this game on?
We RWRNJs are hellbent on getting McCain (a guy we probably don't want), or our candidates are already destroyed?
HolmeZz was right: "Stick to football. Actually, don't."

You didn't understand my post, ClevelandBronco. Apparently people believe McCain is not the candidate of the religious right. Since I'm largely ignorant on political matters, I'll accept that. I had previously assumed the religious right was a powerful political force, but apparently not.
Anyway, I still don't like McCain.

Thanks for once again being the voice of those who admit ignorance.

Exactly. I'm sure the McCain campaign is tickled to death that Guiliani didn't try to tough it out until super Tuesday. Just like Edwards dropping out probably means more votes for Hillary.

Don't beat yourself up - at least I like you. Stick with football.... you'll have enough to worry about in that facet of life because you will have a great offense next year with an awesome HOF QB and solid linemen, but your terrible defense will ruin your season.

I'm leaning towards McCain mainly because I think the religous right are NOT on his side.
I'm a fiscal conservative but I am strongly opposed to pandering to evangelists like Bush appeared to (at least in my opinion).

Oops.
The religious right is a media made engine anyway. I'm still waiting around for the jewish left, the minority left, or any other so called group that supposedly only votes one way.

Clayton, McCain is not a Conservative. He's a moderate who is weak on Illegal Immigration."I intend to win the nomination of OUR party!"
I shuddered when I heard these words. I'm out if this arrogant, irate, Liberal loving hothead gets the nomination. Screw the Republican party, it can go to the toilette with McCain, he will NEVER get my vote, no matter how much he screams, begs, and gets independents and Democrats to cross over.
OK big boy, I liked and STILL LIKE Giuliani. My condolences...
