I am in the process of considering upgrading the finace's laptop. I looked inside the laptop to find out what kind of RAM it is, and it is a

ddr266 256mb 16mx16 2.5v

So if my understanding is correct, does the 266 by the ddr means the mhz? I'm still trying to figure out what the pin is.

Basically, I'm trying to find a way to upgrade her laptop, but it would be nice to know what her motherboard is capable of handling in terms of total RAM memory.

It is a Gateway Model number 400VTX laptop. This is what I was able to find. Hopefully the link will work.

That being said, would this type of a memory (I want to try to get it up to 1024 of RAM) work?

http://www.amazon.com/IBM-200-Pin-PC2100-266Mhz-SODIMM/dp/B00006B8TB

I know it's old, and I know that some of you will say that I should buy a new one, but she really likes this laptop. The issue is, the laptop is very slow, and it only has one RAM chip in there, which is just only 256.

Thanks.

That memory would not work. You have 144 pin memory.

This is the kind of thing that you are after.

The funny thing is, I somehow got into gateway's website and got this listing.

https://assets.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/400VTX/3501331sp47.shtml

It said "Two 200-pin industry standard DDR-SODIMM sockets."

ebay is not any cheaper unless you go with the off brand memory.

TBH, I don't really recommend it tho.

If you can connect to the internet with it...go to:

http://www.crucial.com/

It can scan your PC and tell you exactly what RAM you could put in it.

Enjoy!
