By ADAM TEICHER
The Kansas City Star

The Chiefs today released Eddie Kennison, a starting wide receiver for the past six seasons.

The 35-year-old Kennison was a victim of the Chiefs’ youth movement. With the Chiefs looking to get younger, Kennison was an obvious target.

Between hamstring and shoulder injuries, he was able to play in only eight games last season. He caught just 13 passes for 101 yards.

Those numbers were far off those he posted earlier in his time with the Chiefs. Kennison caught at least 50 passes in each of his five full seasons in Kansas City and had more than 1,000 yards in both 2004 and 2005.

The Chiefs previously released another over-30 offensive starter, guard John Welbourn.

Keep 'em coming, Carl.

Youth movement or no youth movement, I question whether it's a good idea to release a guy when you don't know if you've got anyone who can replace him.

If this was 2005, I'd agree with you.

But it shouldn't be too hard to replace 13 receptions for 101 yards.

Yeah, Brock and OTW are probably right. I guess. Maybe it's unrealistic, but I have a dream of a soft landing, where a declining starter loses his job in camp because someone else deserves it, but he's still back there as a #3 or #4 receiver or wherever his skills place him.

It's nice to know that Eddie's best years were with the Chiefs. I appreciate everything he did. Well, except for dropping that 3rd down pass in OT vs. the Donks in 2002.

However, I'm not interested in holding on to 35-year-old receivers coming off injury-plagued years just to remember the past. Godspeed, EK.

I know the EK was pretty influential in Dwayne Bowe's growth this season. I remember seeing an interview with DBowe stating that EK had really helped him.

I definitely don't want KC to go into the 08 season with Webb or Parker starting opposite Bowe. If that is the case, then I definitely would have rather had EK on the team regardless of age. I also thought a healthy vet like EK could have helped Croyle in the short-term.

Props to Kennison he ressurected himself nicely in KC after showing his ass in Denver.

Hope KC doesn't get Bryant Johnson, I had a chance to see him play live this past year and he is fast as hell with a nice pair of hands. IMHO he could easily be one of the top young WRs out there if he had the right QB and coaching staff.

Kind of like some people who dont like Sammie Parker, because he celebrates, or they didnt like Dante Hall becaused he danced better than they did, and so on....

All true, he did drop plenty...but he also had some very good games, toasting all kinds of top CB's, Chump Bailey comes to mind...
