Cubic yard is a measure of volume. Ton is a measure of weight. How many cubic yards in a ton is going to depend entirely upon the item in question. A ton of feathers will have many more cubic yards than a ton of gravel or dirt.

1 Cubic Yard of top soil weights 1.25 tons

Somehow I doubt this.

It would take almost 2 cubic yards to cover a 10ft. x 20 ft. x 3 inches deep garden.

Dude dirt is heavy. Haven't you been buried alive before?

So heres an idea...

There is this website called Google, I know it has a funny name but trust me. Type in something like "1 ton of dirt equals how many cubic yards?" and see what you come up with.

water adds weight. 1 Cubic Yard of mud likely weighs more that 1 cubic yard of dirt.

You should PM Bill Parcells (or vos or dimension 2112 or whatever he is calling himself these days)- he owns a landscaping business.
