I'm not sure if this has been posted already, but you will find at the end of the blog, a recording of the sermon, "Confusing God and Government" by Rev. Wright. Context and Scripture change everything.

Nice read jilly. One sentence in the last I wasn't too keen on but it's in the past.
That governments lie is a conservative pov too. ( the real conservative pov)

I still haven't seen Obama's speech yet. But it seems from the snippets I have seen that I gotta agree that Obama didn't cave in to the demands of the PC crowd.

Here's a read by Reese.

That was excellent. Thank you for posting it. He certainly is a new kind of politician and it is refreshing to have someone of his intelligence and integrity running for President.

To be honest, I don't think reading the entire thing makes that much of a difference, to me at least.

oh yeah, there's some definite things in there I don't agree with or could be construed as conspiracy theory, but at the same time, it makes a ton more sense to me, at least, now that I could listen to the whole thing.

I guess I should not be suprised that the posters who dog Obama and Rev Wright would not want to comment in this thread as it conflicts with their preconceived notion about Rev Wright and the church.

I haven't watched your video, but isn't it a re.post? If it is, I think I commented in the other thread. To summarize, I don't think the context makes much of a difference.

Not a repost at all as far as I know, in fact it has nothing to do with Fox's sensationalistic clips, neither does the other sermon. You should also watch the video about the Church as I consider it enlightening.

Well I'll try to watch it later today, but unless it's an announcement that the other sermons were April's Fools jokes, I don't see why it would take away from their "wrong and divisive" nature. I have no doubt that Rev. Wright preaches goodness from time to time. It's the times when he's exploiting racist sentiments and agitating for radical politics that bother me.

Find a video of him expressing racist sentiment. Being angry at a government that is run by rich, white people is not the same thing as being racist against all white people.

Also, you have never made an issue of any of the many, many religious leaders that make up one of the three legs of the Republican party, that continually spout bigoted and racist claims from the pulpit. You didn't become concerned until Fox News started showing fifteen second clips of two of Wright's sermons and called them racist. On this forum, you never appeared to give the slightest shit about any of this until it was a useful political attack against your opponent. You are full of shit.

Correction 1: I didn't say he was expressing racist sentiment. I said he was exploiting racist sentiments and agitating for radical policies. When you preach a message of racial victimhood to people in order to get them riled up and receptive to your religious and political message, you are exploiting their racist sentiments.

Correction 2: The first time I demonstrated that I gave "the slightest shit about any of this" was over a year ago (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=159250).

Correction 3: It looks like you're the one full of shit.

Have you ever raised any ruckus about the radical, conservative churches that are a significant base for the Republican party?

I take that as an acknowledgment of my 3 corrections.

Why does it matter? Have you? And if you have, why are you all of a sudden, giving Obama's 20 year association with Wright a pass?

FWIW, I'm not much of a social conservative so you're barking up the wrong tree again. My concern about Obama has nothing to do with religion, btw. It has everything to do with Obama's inauthenticity, his comfort with Wright's exploitation of racist sentiment, his judgment and character for maintaining a close association with Wright over 20 years, and his radical leftist politics.

How many right wingers like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson made claims that 9/11 was America's fault. Seems its only important when the person is connected to a democrat that its important. Are we just so accustomed to the far religious right to be hypocrites?

Seems that Obama is getting into a lot of trouble not for what he says, but for those who are part of his circle.

Would everyone have been happy if Obama had just thrown his friend under the bus? It certainly would have been more politically expedient. This entire issue is blown way out of proportion because there is nothing else happening in the race right now.
