Yup, 8 team-league your team sucks. 14-team league, you're a runaway winner. (I'm guessing 10?)

Also: keeper or regular?

Also I don't know many leauges where you can use 7 starting pitchers, usually if you use 6 you'll be over the innings limit very fast. Looks like you need to dump Coco Crisp, Mark Ellis, and Andy Pettite for some guys who might vulture saves or help your ERA/Stikeouts (8th inning guys) like Rafael Betancourt, Joba Chamberlain, Juan Rincon, Scot Shields, Joel Zumaya, or Jonathan Broxton.

I didn't create it a friend of mine did.
It is my 2cd year at fantasy baseball. So still pretty green at it all.
It is a rotisserie league.
I am looking at a couple of catchers Miguel Olivio from the Royals. How good is he?
I would like to try and work a trade to get a good catcher.
How good is Soria RP too?

Stick with Towles, he won't be the best catcher, but probably in the top 10, which is way better than Olivio. Don't trade for a catcher, just leave it alone!
Soria, he's good, but will he get you 40 saves, not on the Royals this year. Look for 25+ saves with good all around stats.

As for Randy Winn, why? Look for someone that may have been forgotten about, like an Austin Kearns. Your OF is pretty brutal for a 12 team league, a lot of players(Burrel and Bay) that used to be good but have declined a lot so they are ranked higher than they should be.

I suppose it's decent for a 12 team league. I never like going pitcher heavy with my high picks. Every pitcher is capable of having a bad outing any time out and that can screw you up for the week anyway. It's easier to get consistent production out of your position players and easier to get valuable arms late.

It's also MUCH easier to supplement your pitching staff with surprises than finding a bat that goes for 30 and 100.

The stats count for all year it is not a head to head league.
There is 3 SP 2 RP and 3 P positions.
Innings Pitched is a scoring category.

What do you all think about this it is an auto pick. I know I have to get a catcher!

If it's a roto league, you don't have to trade your starting pitching right away. You can always ride it for a bit and then trade one of your top 3 in May or so, before the IP-limit (I assume there's a cap in your league) starts to become a problem for you.

You're light on steals and saves. Those are the areas I'd focus on. I'd look at trading Hardy to someone who is light at shortstop - his power numbers aren't the bonus at your utility spot like they are at SS; Keep an eye out for Brandon Lyon; he's closing in Arizona, and is going undrafted in a lot of leagues. Tony Pena Jr. is another guy to consider, too.

HANG ON to Patterson. He's going to play a lot and COULD be a source of cheap steals.

I'd listen to a trade for A-Rod if it included a stud 1B and 3B or OF (say... Ryan Zimmerman and an OF who will produce across the board and give you steals, too, like Sizemore). But short of that, hang on to him.

We just had our auction-style draft this weekend for my 8 team league. First time I'd ever done the auction draft and it was way more fun than a normal draft. Anyway, here's my team including what I "paid" for each player (our budget was the standard $260):

C - Russell Martin ($16)
1B - Carlos Pena ($21)
2B - Chase Utley ($41)
2B - Ian Kinsler ($4)
3B - Chone Figgins ($10)
3B - Aramis Ramirez ($7)
SS - Troy Tulowitski ($18)
OF - Magglio Ordonez ($30)
OF - Carl Crawford ($21)
OF - Ichiro Suzuki ($10)
OF - Torii Hunter ($9)
OF - Jeff Francoeur ($8)
OF - Hideki Matsui ($6)

SP - Brandon Webb ($21)
SP - Cole Hamels ($7)
SP - Brad Penny ($1)
SP - Jeff Francis ($2)
SP - Barry Zito ($1)
SP - Gil Meche ($1)
SP - Javier Vazquez ($2)
RP - J.J. Putz ($13)
RP - Bobby Jenks ($2)
RP - Joakim Soria ($1)

I think I got come absolute steals including Figgins, Ramirez, Ichiro, Penny, etc.

My strategy was to try to get premium players at 2B, SS, and C because the talent drop off is bigger than for other positions like 1B, 3B, OF, etc. I also tried to grab at least one elite SP and RP, which I did with Webb and Putz.

I think you got a bunch of steals but I think you over paid for Pena, and while Russell Martin is a nice catcher, I would have went of the cheap with a guy like Soto who shouldn't cost much and got a big bat at 1st base. What did fielder, Howard and other guys like that go for?

1 Alex Rodriguez
2 Johan Santana
3 David Wright
4 Ryan Howard
5 Jake Peavy

10 Jimmy Rollins

Its a pretty good league but some people seem to over value big names and pitchers if you ask me.

3 1st basemen........That's just dumb as hell sure they may out homer Ramirez but when you combine Ramirez with a middle tiered 1st like Adrian Gonzalez they'll combine for better stats than one of those 3 and their crappy SS counterpart.

Braun scars me a bit. There is no way I'd pay that much for him. I've seen too many 1 year wonders. A good player yes, but he needs to back it up now.

I would be way off on Pena as well. He's the only guy that I probably would have went a different direction with.

I was thinking along the same lines. Getting D. Lee was also also a steal in my book, I took him in the 5th. The only position I'm a little worried about is 3rd base but over all I'm really happy with my team.

Speaking of drafting with fools... I'm in a league with a bunch of sportswriters and other newspaper folk (most of them from Georgia, designers, ad guys and such)... Mark Teixeira went No. 3. Reyes and Hanley fell to 6 and 7. Smoltz went third in the second round (with every pitcher but Santana on the board).

Brian McCann went with the second pick of round 2 in this league last year (this year, he lasted until round 4, but was selected before Mauer and Martin). Here's my lineup from that league (picking sixth out of 12):

2- Mauer
3 - Morneau
4 - Weeks
5 - Kouzmanoff
6 - Jose Reyes
OF - Sizemore
OF - Magglio Ordonez
OF - Bay
UTIL - Josh Hamilton (17th round)
BN - Billy Butler

Sabathia
Kazmir
Billy Wagner
Cordero
Brandon Lyon
Brian Wilson (SF)

Meche
Wainwright
Andrew Miller
Capuano
Tony Pena Jr (insurance for Lyon)

I feel like it's a hell of a team for drafting in the middle. My connection dropped and Yahoo! auto-drafted Johnny Damon for me in round 12 (with Mags, Sizemore and Bay already on board), but I was able to drop him for Lyon later (everyone assumed Pena was the closer because he was higher on Yahoo's rankings).

I think I'm a little light on power (Hamilton being the only 40 home run threat), but I think my lineup will be a strong 5x5 contender and should win 3-4 categories consistently.

Lyons has been terrible, if he continues that, it won't be long before Pena is the closer.
