That was probably just his thunder thighs. You can't blame him for that.

Id say mine is Tug McGraw. I hated his smug reactions every time he would strike out a Royals player in the 80 World Series.

Maybe i was just a kid overreacting....

Ed Farmer: Broke Al Cowens jaw and Frank White's hand in the same game.

Thurman Munson: Royal Killer in 1970's. Good player, bad pilot.
Chris Chambliss: Ditto. Too bad he didn't take flying lessons.
Craig Nettles: Got in a big fight with Brett. BTW: He's Mike Sweeney's father in law. Another reason to not like him.

Billy Martin: Giant egomaniac alcoholic windbag.

Joaquin Andujar: You can sum up baseball with one word: "Youneverknow."

Reggie Jackson: Out in Right Field GA we used to throw him oreo cookies and loose change, and read to him out of the Wall St. Journal.

Mike Mussina: We can't hit him. Ever.
Jamie Moyer: Ditto.
CC Sebathia: Ditto.
Bartolo Colon: Ditto.

Jeff Weaver: Couldn't even kick Mike Sweeney's ass. Puss.

Neifi Perez: He's a waste of skin.

Juan Gonzalez: The human DL.

Tony Pena: Quit on the Royals, then ran to the Yanks. No honor, no class.

All the Roid Boys: Big Mac, Raffie, Sosa, Canceco, etc etc etc

Ditto.

Remember when Cowens faced him for the first after that (it was when Al was either with the Angels or Tigers)? Grounded out and instead of running to 1B, ran straight to the mound to kick Ed's ass.

Here's the Wiki on Easy Al. BTW: People in Right Field GA LOVED Al Cowens. He was under rated, because Amos Otis and Willie Wilson were in the same outfield. There was a guy in Right Field GA called "Top Cat" who was a fishing buddy of Al's, and went to lots of the games. I spent many years (1975 to 1988) out in RFGA, although I didn't go to every game, I probably went to at least 20 or 30 a year. Those were the days.

Ahhh...

Oh yeah, Wiki on Al:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Cowens

Alfred Edward (Al) Cowens, Jr. (October 25, 1951 – March 11, 2002) was a right fielder in Major League Baseball. From 1974 through 1986, Cowens played for the Kansas City Royals (1974-79), California Angels (1980), Detroit Tigers (1980-81) and Seattle Mariners (1982-86). He batted and threw right handed.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Cowens was a product of the Kansas City Royals farm system. He made his major league debut with the Royals in 1974 and played for them through 1979. His most productive season came in 1977, when he batted .312 with 23 home runs and 112 RBI, earned a Gold Glove, and finished second to Rod Carew in balloting for the American League MVP Award.

A notable feud occurred between Cowens and pitcher Ed Farmer (current White Sox radio announcer). On May 8, 1979 playing for the Royals, Cowens suffered a fractured jaw and missed 21 games during an 8-7 loss to Texas as a result of being hit by a pitch from Farmer. Farmer also hit Royal Frank White in the same game and White sustained a broken hand, missing 33 contests.

The next season on June 20‚ 1980 while playing for the Tigers‚ Cowens hit an infield grounder as Farmer pitched at Comiskey Park. While Farmer watched his infielder make the play, Cowens ran to mound and attacked the pitcher from behind instead of running to first base. Cowens was suspended for 7 games and a warrant was issued for his arrest in Illinois‚ forcing him to skip the remainder of the Tigers-White Sox series in Chicago.

Farmer agreed to drop the charges in exchange for a handshake‚ and the two players brought out the lineup cards before the game on Sep 1, 1980. However, future appearances for Cowens in Chicago were greeted with a "Coward Cowens" banner.

In a 13-year career, Cowens was a .270 hitter with 108 home runs and 717 RBI in 1584 games.

Cowens died in Downey, California, at the age of 50 from a heart attack.

I loved Cowens. What a cannon he had in RF.

My favorite piece of Cowens trivia: Whitey Herzog swore that if Cowens had been playing RF instead of McRae in the 76 playoffs (Cowens shifted to CF when Otis got hurt in the first inning of Game 1), he would've leaped and caught Chambliss' series-winning homer because Al was 3 inches taller than Mac (and probably a better leaper, too).

Yes, all of them. But especially Graig Nettles. I was six when he and Brett got into a fight at third base, and I've hated the pinstripes ever since. I even bought a picture off Ebay of the fight...

IM just barely old enough to remember that now classic 76 playoff series with the Yanks. I dont remember much, but i do remember all the Royals players being dejected after that Chambliss home run.

It was sweet payback in 1980 with the Brett homer off Gossage. Probably one of the greatest sports moments in KC history.

It stars Johnny Bench, Rick Dempsey and the San Diego Chicken.

I had taken a bunch of honor roll kids on a trip to K.C to end with a game. Henderson was playing left field and argued, cursed, flipped off, grabbed his balls at a fan that was heckling him. The fan should have had his ass kicked out of the game, but if Henderson would have just let it go it most likely would have stopped. It went on every inning between every pitch. Was a real treat for kids to see two guys going at it like that. Showed how much class both of them had.

No shit WGN is syndicated nationally yet the guy cheerleads his team year after year and makes no attempt to be objective. Can you imagine the hate mail and death threats he gets every year?

Lol! Thank God for MLB.com because for years the only time I'd get to see the Royals on TV was when they were playing the White Sox and it was on WGN. Hopefully as the years go by Hawk Harrellsons annoying voice and gameday cliche's will be erased from my memories.

And I don't hate the guy personally, he's a phenomenal player, but we have helped the cause of Ivan Rodriguez making the HoF more than any other team out there. He just kills us every time we play him.

The first players I ever learned to hate were the the 3 time World's Champion Oakland A's.

The Royals were in first by 5 games at the ASB in 1975. We came off a series where the Royals took 3 of 4 from the A's who were floundering. Mainly because Reggie was hurt.

Sal Bando - that bastard - tacked a note in the visitors clubhouse that read: The Royals can't last" (the season)and signed it "Captain Sal".

Sparked all kinds of shit. But he was right. Reggie got healthy, they went on a tear and the Royals faded into second place.

It was still a great seaon and precursor of things to come.

F*ck you, Cap't Sal.
