My first ever favorite actor as a kid. Loved him as Jim Bowie. Lived a long time, though. Remember Madigan?

Widmark, to me, was a guy who I never thought "He's in that movie, so I want to see that".

He was more the guy who, after I watched the movie, I came away thinking, he was really good.

I guess the last movie I saw RW in was 'Coma', it came out around 1978. Richard played the crazy hospital administrator that was harvesting body parts and Michael Douglas I believe was a young doctor or intern who exposed the plan. However, I seem to always remember Richard Widmark dressed as a naval officer commanding a submarine or destroyer.

I just remember his name being one of those guys from the 70's listed as "An All Star Cast!"

With Charlton Heston, Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, and Slim Pickens!

Coma was incredible...and has held up well, IMO.

The movie you remember is "The Bedford Incident", another favorite of mine.

Huh. I didn't know that. Robin Cook and Michael Chrichton..no wonder it was such a damn good medical thriller.

Hats off. My favorite Widmark role was Pickup on South Street. Good Cold War film noir, he does a good job.

RIP RW. One great actor from when Hollywood was great.
