if I told you guys that I messed up my ankle in K-stan around the June time frame and when I got back to the States the Military MHS (medical hobby shop) sent me to physical therapy (with the MRI report in hand that said I had a torn tendon - this was in October) and to be patient..... Well, in January I went to Flordia for field training/exercise and managed to rip the ligaments (results from yet another MRI that the military said was "unneccessary") on the opposite side of the same ankle. They told me to continue physical therapy and "be patient". While playing their stupid game I finally managed to get a second opinion (with a REAL doctor) and ended up having surgery Monday afternoon. While I'm not excited to have to have surgery - or be on crutches... I am pretty happy that THIS will be the fix that my ankle obviously needed. (a tendon repair, a ligament repair, many bone fragments removed - one was a little over an inch long, and a bunch of scar tissue removed).

So now for the next few days - all I'm doing is sitting in my recliner, taking serious pain meds - watching the occasional tv program & use the good ole laptop until the pain meds knock me out. LOL

Thanks! I'm optimistc now..... funny how seeing a credible doctor can do that for your outlook. I would love to be running by the end of June - but that might be a bit too optimistic, so I'll have to be a little more "patient" and see how things go. Once my rehab is complete (or getting close), I'm going to seriously consider retiring from the AF and getting started in the civilian sector.

I hope your ankle heals 100% and is good as new as soon as possible. I don't know if it would help to take calcium supplements and maybe chondroitin and glucosamine to speed up the process, but if it would, I'd take it. Thanks for your service; we are in your debt.

Good luck!

My brother broke his ankle in the beginning of January and he is still not back to work yet. he's walking on it, but too much time walking on it and or standing on it brings on swelling and stiffness. my friend is a podiatrist, and he says it takes almost a year for the ankle to get back to normal.

Get better! no skiing for you! :(

Did your brother have to have surgery? I'm glad he's getting around on it - hopefully he's more patient than I am! Good luck to him!

Enjoy your Limdu time CG, and document the hell out of everything they do to you medically, you'll need it when it comes time to retire. I'm learning how to speak VA now myself.
Heal soon, and get back to work dammit!

No, no surgery, he was lucky. the Doctor just had him in a cast for 6 weeks with no weight on it. he still had to get an MRI on it last wed just to make sure there wasn't any ligament damage also. but he's getting around better every day.

I've got an old college chronic injury I need to get worked on.

I used to drink too much and visit women with less morals than say, a nun.

Sometimes, they must have had a lady part like a basses mouth, because I'd wake up in the morning with bass thumb.

Thanks! I'm getting copies of everything - especially since these clowns didn't seem to think that there was a reason to fix it when I first got back into the states. But ya know, you could make a fortune if you could make one of those "learn the VA language with one easy CD"... :D

The only picture I have of me holding an M16 .... I was wearing chem gear and full "battle rattle". I definately don't hold to the CP's standard of a "model"

I'm home in Rapid now. :) The amazing thing was that for the FIRST time - I am on REAL conv. leave! I get to sit in my recliner with my leg up until the 16th! Of course, now that I'm cutting back on the pain pills - I'm starting to get bored to sitting around. BUT.... everytime I get up and start moving around - my toes start to turn purple and I start to get lightheaded. :grr:

One of these days I'm going to have to get up there to see Mt. Rushmore among other things. I can't believe I haven't been up there yet since I've been in Scottsbluff. :shake: But no one here want's to go other than to go gambling. Maybe I should just go by myself one of these weekends.

Well... drop 'em in Deadwood and go see Mt Rushmore from there. It's not really all that far from there. :) If you make it this way - there's lots to see though - add Crazy Horse, Badlands, Devil's Tower, Custer State Park to name a few. And of course, if I'm in town - I could meet ya for a burger. :D

Meh, Crazy Horse is a tourist trap. I wasn't going to pay $20 or whatever it was to see where some guy blew a few rocks off of a mountain. Is that thing ever supposed to be done?

LOL - Mt Rushmore is more of a tourist trap than Crazy Horse. And the last time I was up there - there wasn't a fee to get into the Crazy Horse area (there is one for Mt Rushmore). They have made some progress over the last couple years - all of the money they raise is thru donations (the reason that their progress is so slow, where Mt Rushmore used federal money).

I was up back in 2004, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere there was a fee to get in so I didn't even bother going there. I think that fee included a rock from the mountain that you could take home with you, w00t! As far as Mt Rushmore, you CAN'T go to the Black Hills without going there, I think it's a law or something.

Have you ever been to that maze outside of Rapid City? That thing frustrated the hell out of me.

Cntrygal
03-30-2008, 04:58 PM
As far as I know.... Crazy Horse doesn't have a fee - let me know if you come back into the area and I'll double check that for you. I've gone up there once - and didn't have to pay anything (to include parking).

The maze outside of RC... hmmm - I have to admit, I haven't even heard of a maze. After I'm mobile I'll have to look into it (esp if it's open "off tourist season"). Do you remember about where it was?

IIRC it took me about an hour and fifteen minutes to get thru it, and that's with some help from the attendants that worked there. Luckily there are plenty of exits where you can bail if you get too frustrated and want to give up. I was determined to complete it though.
