I got my apartment today, and it freakin' rocks. Been in Myrtle Beach since Saturday and I just picked up the keys to my 3 br. 2 ba. condo, one block from the beach.

It's a good day. Today was also the first day on the new job.

I'm the Director of New Media at a start-up NBC station. www.wmbftv.com.

I didn't do the current website.

The station will go on-air 8-8-08 with the Olympics and will be a digital, hi-def station from the get go.

Myrtle Beach IS awesome. Pretty inexpensive to live out there considering the ocean at your back door. I have a feeling you're going to be a happy guy. Congratulations!!!

They're just now getting NBC in Myrtle Beach? Introduce the Internet and you'll own that town.

Thanks. I spoke with a realtor here this afternoon and she said this condo where I'm staying is an "incredible deal". I got this thing for a song, and it looks great.

Once I know my way around MB better it'll be great. That's also assuming the sun shines here. I haven't seen it yet. It's been cloudy and rainy since I arrived, and was also cloudy and rainy during my visit last month.

Have a blast with Senior week, we would go every year when I was in HS. The golfing is pretty good and the people are friendly.

Yep. No NBC until August. And the competition internet-wise is awful. I could do a half-ass job here and kick their butts.

Good news.

Bad news...Tropical storm Amy just formed 300miles SE of Myrtle beach and is expected to reach land in 3 days as a category 3 hurricane.

Meh, I heard you can't grill within fifty feet of your house there.

Yeah. That's a major downside. :grr:

Huh? That's retarted. You going to run an extension cord out to the fridge so you don't have to walk 50 feet to get a beer?

I think he has to go stand in the ocean to BBQ.

Alas, the BBQ will be staying with the inlaws until my wife and I buy a place.

Damn South Carolina state fire marshal.

That won't be the last incident of you thinking they're a little ass backwards down there. I promise. I think the good will outweigh the bad though. JMO.

I figure that must be why Carolina-style BBQ sucks.

I may have to stick with SR's recipe with the liquid smoke.

It's good... but it ain't Q.

It sucks compared to KC, but has a flavor all of it's own. If you don't like vinegar, it's definitely not for you.

since you are going to be busy working and stuff... if you want, I can take some of your Casino cash off your hands... one less thing for you to worry about. :-)

If by "flavor all of its own" you mean "it sucks"... then yeah. You're right. It's definitely got a flavor all its own.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of the Carolina BBQ either. My wife and I constantly have this inner-family debate. I'd like to take them to some KC joints and revisit the question.

I'm jealous. I'm moving to Boston in about a month, not near the beach though, not a bad drive however if I feel like going though!!!! I got a little house in West Roxbury (about 20 minutes from the city) waiting for me and am pretty excited! Congrats on your new condo by the beach!

20 minutes from the city? So you mean it's about .5 miles?

Prepare to hate your life. I moved to Boston when I was your age. Hated it. Hated the town, hated the people, hated the weather, hated my job - everything. I hope you have better luck than I did. I last 3-4 months before I moved to Houston.

ya, the traffic is not favorable by any means. But I can live with that. West Roxbury is a nice old town, I don't think I'll hate it, I went up there a few months ago for a couple of weeks and it was fine. I do expect some serious winters though, I grew up in a small town about an hour or 2 north of Boston...moved to Kansas when I entered the 6th grade. I liked it up there and am looking forward to my move!

Well, at least you're prepared for most of it. Are you prepared to make $100k+ or live in the 'hood? The cost of living ain't pretty there. I was pulling $50k 15 years ago and still couldn't swing it.

Congrats man. The closest I've been to Myrtle was the time I spent in Aiken. Bit of a drive for a day at the beach though.

So far it's good. I used to golf, but it's been 8 years or so. I did pick up my clubs from my brother's place on the way out of state.
