NFL | League approves communication for defenses
Tue, 1 Apr 2008 09:22:41 -0700

Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports NFL owners voted Tuesday, April 1, to approve a resolution to allow a communication device for a defensive player. Each offensive and defensive team will now be allowed to have one player on the field with a speaker in his helmet. The quarterback wears the speaker for the offense. The defense will now be allowed a speaker, and a backup helmet for another player

Good.

If the offense has the option, it only makes a more even playing field for 1 player on the defense to have the same communications.

More green dots running around on the field.

Nice to see the league finally make a move to help the defense, after doing everything they possibly could to tilt it in favor of the offense.

about time, but i wouldnt be suprised if they dont take it away down the road saying it gives the D an unfair advantage cause offenses only put up 20 points a game.

I don't like it it takes the crowd noise factor out of the game.

How is allowing the DEFENSE to have communication going to take away the crowd noise factor? You don't get loud when your team is on offense. :doh!:

Good, although I feel sorry for whoever the KC defender is that will have to interpret what Gunther is saying to him.

:hmmm:

I always figured crowd noise was to help disrupt the other guys offense. Comms can only help when your defense is on the field trying to stop them.

Now if you (for some inexplicable reason) scream loudly when your offense is on the field to try to disrupt the other guys D, I guess your point would be correct. Why you would want to do something so (IMO) foolish is beyond me.

Most teams want the crowd to STFU when the Offense is on the field.

After reading the rest of thread, I guess I have as well. :shake:

Or they could just let Herm draw up their gameplan...

Fans in the stands, my friend, fans in the stands. You know what will happen though, offense will just shift formation and immediatly hike as soon as set. So defensive communication will have to be fast.
