Well, he seems to think the Chiefs need to find 7 starters out of this draft, but in reality most teams that have a "good draft" are lucky to find 3 or 4 starters out of a draft.

The Chiefs and their fans shouldnt have any allusions, this is a 2-3 years rebuilding project.

7 EVENTUAL starters, or 7 IMMEDIATE starters?

Either way, he's out of his mind.

If we eventually get 5 starters out of this draft I'd be thrilled.

Congrats to Nick, but finding 7 starters in a draft is a pipe dream. Even with the lack of talent this team has, there's no way in hell we'll see 7 rookies starting this season. It's possible we could have 7 of the 10 make the 53 man roster a year or two from now. But, that's more due to default than anything else. When you have a team with the level of talent we do now, 80% of the roster better be looking over their shoulders.

I DESPISE it as a fan of the Chiefs, because I know watching them will be depressing as hell. But, it's a necessity if they plan to be a good team for years to come. You can't overpay for primetime free agents with the number of holes that need to be filled. We've got to suck it up, deal with the losses, and hope Herm can draft the level of talent this team needs to be legitimate contenders again.

If you guys remember last season when the Chiefs talked about "new, young starters" they included the nickel back and the place kicker. If you expand the definition of "starter" you could easily get to 7 in this draft. Here's my list of "starters" needed from this draft:

LOT
RG
CB
Nickel CB
3 wide set WR
PR
KR
Special Teams Coverage (Boomer's spot)
Punt Team Gunner (Drummond's Spot)

That's 9 spots right there, again, if you expand the definition of "starter".

That's true, but that wasn't the point I was making. I was making the point that depending on the definition of "starter", we could very well have 7 rookie "starters" this year. Whether or not they are any good will not be defined until midway into the season.

Also, some of those "starting" spots could be filled with 1 pick. For example, the Nickel CB could also be the punt returner. 3 wide set WR could also be the KR or the punt coverage gunner.

Now that's just pathetic. Once I got to buy Mitch a drink. But I left him alone after that.

just a little creepy.:)

I do now remember though listening to a podcast or something on WPI when they had Hothus on. It seemed like Mitch was glad to talk with them like he is in any interview but you could tell he seemed pretty wary. Mentioned that he "trusted" nick several times(by letting him tag along for a week) and had that warning tone by bringing up the trust factor over and over.

Just seemed like Mitch had second thoughts and hoped he wouldn't regret it. I guess one would have to listen for themselves but that's the impression I got.

The hatred for Athan is pretty much an online fan phenomenon. The players and organization don't really see him as the hack that most people around here do. In fact, I don't really think that most of the players really think much of Athan, positive or negative. I remember Trent getting his dad a subscription to WPI one year as a gift. I don't think Trent necessarily thought the magazine was some awesome piece of journalism. It was just a Chiefs magazine, and he thought his dad would enjoy it. Where the Athan hatred comes from is for those looking for up to the minute scoop who have seen outright rumors and conjecture peddled as a "news source" worth paying for.

For the most part, he also prints what the Chiefs want him to print, choosing to shy away from any criticism beyond the obvious and any news stories that might damage the organization.

I'm not an authority on the history but I think Nick worked with the guy who now operates the University of Iowa Scout site - who was also running the Chiefs site. When the Iowa site started blowing up and it because too much for him to run both, Nick kinda took over the Chiefs site.

So, did Nick connect with Scout intentionally or whatever? I don't know but it was a good move for him in any case.

I don't think it's limited to online. When I worked for Warpaint and indicated as much to random people they had some disdain for Nick, which is why I felt moving Nick behind the scenes would have been positive for their organization.
