A poster on Chiefscoaltion claims he heard the following on Jim Rome:

He interviwed with Whitlock and stated that he has heard rumors of him being traded and that he would be open to it. Whitlock made it sound like he is on the block this is very shocking to me. Anyone else know about this?

I have to say that there has to be a high degree of BS here. Another poster in the thread claims that it has been mentioned that Waters wants more money and that the Chiefs are disappointed in his play in 2007.

Trading the only player on the line that does his job better than most NFL gaurds? I don't buy it:harumph:<!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_1157338-->

I wasn't particularly impressed with his play in '07 either, and I think it raises the question of how much of his performance from '02 to '04 was due to Roaf and Shields (and Wiegmann for that matter). He's also 30, so this would be, to me, the time to trade him, rather than re-up him for big bucks. The team probably isn't going to be contending for anything for at least another year, or two, and by that point we have a 32-year old guard (who, as good as is was, was never Will Shields...) making big bucks. Not the worst thing, but I'm not sure how smart it would be, either.

The downside, of course, is that he's the only established player on our offensive line outside of McIntosh, and we have enough holes to fill with him on the roster...

This is the first I've heard of it, though. Most of the talk I know of is that he's probably our starting center in '08. Which might beg the question of how much centers make as opposed to guards.

Waters was on the radio talking about the draft. He said he thinks the Chiefs should trade down. Even if Jake Long is on the board. He said Long is a great lineman but that there are a lot of really good lineman out there and they would have a better chance of getting more players that would be able to step in and play sooner rather than later.

Waters isn't the type. If he were a money-grubber, he'd have hired an agent and bent the Chiefs over backwards 3 years ago. Instead he negotiated his own, fair-market contract.

His family is set and he's smart enough to do the right things with his money.

I don't see it. Not at all.

One of the Chiefs' blogs said they heard the interview and it was Whitlock floating all the trade question and Waters was just answering the questions put to him. In other words, Waters wasn't bringing it up.

There have been rumors that Waters wants a new contract, though. But I guess he denied that in the interview, too.

A 1st and 3rd for Whitlock is fair.

I would trade Fatlock for sure. We would probably get 3 compensation picks for a man that BIG.

I heard he has upped his off season training program in the hopes of regaining some of that.

He must have had a couple of bad experiences at some of great BBQ joints in KC for Whitlock to want out!

Why would we trade Whitlock? He's big enough to play RG and RT at the same time right? All we need now is a center!
