Bryant Gumbel will no longer do play-by-play for NFL Network
Associated Press

Updated: April 11, 2008, 6:02 PM ET

LOS ANGELES -- Bryant Gumbel has given up his role as an NFL Network play-by-play announcer after two seasons.

The NFL Network said Friday it was looking for a new play-by-play announcer to work with Cris Collinsworth on the network's Thursday and Saturday night games.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me," Gumbel said in a statement. "But we've agreed that we'd all be better served going in different directions."

If they're looking for a comparable talent, I've heard "Boom Goes The Dynamite" guy is in search of a job.

Too bad Trent Green is going to be tied up being QB coach for the Chiefs after he retieres. It will be a loss to the broadcasting industry.

Just because there's a thread full of white guys bashing a brotha doesn't mean you have to go bringing up Gus Johnson. This is how riots start.

Now they need to just replace Collinsworth and have better production quality to their broadcasts.

Seriously when they broadcast a game it looks like the JV squad compaired to ESPN, ABC, NBC and CBS. If the NFL wants to broadcast games and force me to buy their cable station fine, but it sure as hell need to be the same quality as the other networks.

I don't have a problem with that. Just don't bring Marshall Faulk with him. :shake:

Gumble came to mind when I recently caught Drew Carey hosting on the Price Is Right show, for they both have great talent to get where they are now, but they are like two fish out of water on their latest adventures........just horrid.

I caught PiR last night and thought Carey was HORRIBLE. I can't believe they saw him as a viable replacement for Barker. He has no energy, no enthusiasm and comes off like damn robot. Completely uninterested in what he is doing.

My wife used to watch PiR every day, now with Carey as host, she just can't bear to watch.

I've never been a Dan Patrick fan, but when there was some discussion that he might be Barker's replacement, I thought it would have been a great fit.

He would definitely bring more enthusiasm to the show than Carey does.

If you saw Bob Barker in the 60s and 70s, he was also dry, as dry as anyone I've ever seen.

Dan Patrick reminds me a great deal of a young Bob Barker.
