But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

"I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaida.

Duhnise said Barack's opinion didn't matter because he wasn't risking anything(as opposed to everything she risked by coming out against the war). He was just dead-on about everything that unfolded.

But then again apparently so was Rumsfeld, with his 'list of horribles'.

Yes but Rumsfeld had his head squarely up Cheney's butt.

Seems I said all the same things (they may be in the archives) only to be labeled as traitorous and a terrorist sympathizer...by folks like yourself.

And now? Someone saying these things is qualified to be POTUS based on saying these things???

:spock: :shake: :cuss:  :banghead:

Yes, Obama nailed it back in 2002.

Unfortunately, he also spent the last 20 years listening to THIS guy:

<object height="373" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9hPR5jnjtLo&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999&amp;border=1&amp;hl=en"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9hPR5jnjtLo&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999&amp;border=1&amp;hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" height="373" width="425"></embed></object>

He showed a lot of wisdom when he condemned the war in Iraq long before it was fashionable to do so. But you also have to wonder if he showed the kind of leadership you expect in a President by silently condoning Jeremiah Wright's message of "God Damn America".

It was not wisdom nor was it necessarily courage...

it was looking at the entire region in it's entire history and extrapolating a prediction of the future based on the results from the past. ANYONE looking past the rhetoric of the POTUS could clearly see it. But it called for the willingness to accept that the POTUS did not have the nation's best interest at heart in order to do this. Many people were not willing to go there.

Those of us who did were not courageous or necessarily wise. We are just inherently cynical and suspicious of the government and when it comes to war our cynicism and suspicion goes into overdrive.

I am reading Audacity of Hope and it is a great, great book. In fact it is the genesis for the idea for this thread.

I thought you were labeled as an actual terrorist and not just a sympathizer.
