That's farked up. You have to get your own money back from the state so you can give it to the feds.

I received money back from the feds that I had to turn around and send to the state.

Ironically, I forgot about the money I invested in my kids college funds that is tax deductable with the state. So now I have to file an amended return to get practically all of my money back. Bet they drag their feet on that one. heh

If its not a large amount you can just deal with the 2.5% fee for payment by credit card.

Even if you can't pay tomorrow just make sure to file. You can always just file an extension or a request for a payment plan.

Form 4868 is the only thing I like about the IRS.

I would like it more if didn't mean you would owe interest on whatever your liability is. If you don't have the funds or don't owe, then it can make some sense. Unless you are waiting on some K-1'S or other info, not sure I would be happy to file an extension.

I file late because my CPA gives me a break on her rates if she can file at her leisure.

Well, on her schedule. She doesn't have much leisure and she has nothing but chaos for the three months leading up to 4/15.

That will obviously work. I assume they cover your costs for any interest/penalties.

There is no interest nor are penalties due so long as I have paid on time. That part of the deal is up to my bookkeeper. I don't file on time, however, and that's where I save money on my CPA.

Sound like you have a pretty nice arrangement. As long as you pay on time there is no downside.

Heard on the radio yesterday that April 23rd is the "real tax day". That is the day this year that you have earned enough to pay this year's taxes and can now start working for yourself.

I owe both the Feds and State a chunk of change. I've already e-filed, but those checks won't hit the mail until tonight.

I actually got my refund check in the mail last night. I had already spent most of it, but the sight of a fat check (even if it always was my own money that never should have been taken in the first place) will always put a smile on my face.

But yes, I wholeheartedly concur, 4321 the IRS.
