View Full Version : Reputation meaningless as implemented

I think the rep system has lost all meaning (what litle it ever had). There are almost 300 users that have reached Icon status, some with as few as 70 posts. So how does that happen?

My thought is we ought to get rid of it or make it much harder to give and earn, and reset everyone if that is possible. Just one BB members opinion

Really all they need to do is redo the values. There is no point to reset everyone. Personally, I would rather see it go away permanently.

But if we get rid of it... where will my self confidence come from then?

I know for a fact I kick ass because I reached icon status on the Planet. :D

I agree with you. I don't think it's turned out the way people envisioned it would.
One thing that might keep the majority happy, if it's possible, is to leave this rep system the way it is so the members who use it to flex their theoretical muscles in rep wars would still be able to stroke their own egos'. Maybe change the name to The Bitch Slap system or something along that line. Then add another more legitamate rep system that is much harder to give and earn rep like you suggested

It is meaningless and not worth getting all worked up about. People need something else of greater value to be concerned about.

Icon is no longer the highest level and the values were pushed up quite a bit:

Do you guys really (seriously) pay attention to rep? I think it's funny when I get the random neg rep... I think I check once every time a thread mentioning 'rep' appears. I never think about giving anyone rep (good or bad).

Oh ... you're a bunch of women for worrying about rep.

**edit** - just checked and going back to 2003... I have 13 neg reps with 7 coming from goat boy, 2 from redrum, 2 from jspchief, 1 from kcvii and 1 from ghostof

I'll check back in July and see how many more I have after this thread... peace.

maybe for those with low posts, why not have it to where the option to show rep is only avail post 150 posts ... or something? i mean if your nice, make good conversation, and occasionally stick it to WPI...then you get repped to death LMAO (j/k on the WPI part LMAO) .. or am i :hmmm:

I missed the "how does this happen part." It's two things.

1. Under the current formula, we have users who can give or take nearly 2,000 points with a single blow. "Icon" status is currently set at 25,000. That means that such a user could turn a n00b into an icon in 13 hits, or about three days worth of working at it.
2. The "rep whoring for casino cash" thread has led to TONS of people repping each other like crazy. That's likely where you're seeing n00bs become icons with very few posts.

My plan is to 1)lower everyone back down to a reasonable level, 2)lower the formulas so that it's harder for people to go dramatically up or down quickly, and 3) revise the rankings so that they're fresh, original, and entertaining. That's my forte, but I've lined up one of the best in the business for that task.

It may be a while before everything gets done, but it's on my list.

Still any system that would not have Kevin (Rain Man for the n00Bs) at the top had to be really f'd up.

While we are getting questions answered, my casino cash is growing but I am not gambling does an amount get added every time you are repped? If so do you lose money if you are negative repped?

One other thing, is there some place to see everyones casino cash amount?

You used to get money for rep, but I killed that system and tweaked a few other things that, hopefully, will be less effort for everyone and won't completely ruin the rep system. Now, you get $25 for every day that you log in to the Planet.

You can't see everyone's cash in one place, but you can see a variety of stats about it here:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/casino.php?do=stats
