Who should we pick at # 5 if we trade Jared Allen guys.

Poll is fourth coming.

Trading Jared shouldn't have any impact on who we should take at 5, or any other pick for that matter.

There's lots of holes and the best player on the board at each pick is almost certain to be a player that fills a position of need.

Another thing that comes to my attention.

Say draft day, Miami doesnt draft Jake Long and instead drafts Vernon Gholston. How would you guys feel about the Chiefs trading there 2nd they get from Minnesota or 3rd to move up to the 2nd spot to get Jake Long.

Meanwhile the Rams get our 5th pick and a 2nd or 3rd. If the Chiefs really want Jake Long they they would probably do that.

Take for what its worth, It's just a thought.

Ok enough! :cuss:

I agreed with MM. If we are dreaming where did JL go?

Chris Long is the best player in the draft followed by Dorsey and Ellis. Then Jake Long, Gholston, and McFadden. Take the highest one on that list that is there at #5.

We dont need Jake Long that freaking bad. Minnesota spot at 17 we can get Chris Williams who isnt that much of a drop off from Long.

Franchise QB is better, but Ryan isnt that.

I think Ryan is undervalued because of his lack of a rocket arm, but he has everything else, I think he will succeed and be a very good QB.

I think the best player is not the one I bitched about all year, he is not from USC....

If U are so great, why R u here and not a draft personnel?

I wouldn't trade up to the #2 spot to take a guy who has a very good chance to end up playing RT.

:thumb: Damn straight! We are starting from scratch if Allen goes. Build the team in the manner it should be built. Don't just replace him... then we are in just the same place we are/were.

Rebuild it! The right way.

Wow, this poll isn't biased......

Matt Ryan would be my choice at #5. If we're truly rebuilding, starting with a franchise QB is the way to go.

If no Ryan, then I would love Dorsey.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before.

I mean the answer is so obvious, and it's been right in front of me for a couple of days now.

We should draft Eric Bakhtiari at #5.

I mean, isn't obvious that we should draft the current Buck Buchanon award winner to replace the former one?

Matt Ryan with # 5 regardless.
We don't have to replace JA in this draft. We'll have multiple picks to do that later. Plus, we're gonna be picking low for a few years anyway.

I'd like to see us pick up Ryan @ #5 and (assuming we trade Allen) an OT/OG at #17 and #35

I actually might not be opposed to drafting McFadden @ #5 picking up an OT @ #17 and a QB @ #35 (Brohm/Flacco/Woodson)

Course we gotta find a WR & CB somewhere...we have so many needs you could start just about anywhere and still have huge holes elsewhere

You left out Ryan and all of the offensive linemen, and have 12 defensive guys listed. It is being said that Ryan and 5 offensive linemen will be gone by the 14th spot in the draft. That make 6 offensive players gone by pick 14. And yet you think all 12 of these guys are worth of a 5th overall selection?

i agree, I think Atlanta takes him...and I am more and more excited about the possibility of drafting a QB, so I hope he does fall...

if Atlanta does pass though, our phone will ring off the hook...Baltimore and Carolina want him, and the Mike & Mike show this morning on ESPN (yeah, they're weenies but it's sports talk) seemed convinced that the Jets would take him if we passed...

Not necessarily early in the draft though. We have a 1st round DE from a couple of years ago. He played pretty well his first year. And for having an injury, wasn't all that bad last year.

Yep. Some of the league's best DE's over the last decade are found later on:

Jared Allen - 4th round (#126)
Osi Umenyiora - 2nd round (#56)
Trent Cole - 5th round (#146)
Elvis Dumervil - 4th round (#126)
Aaron Kampman - 5th round (#156)
Kyle Vanden Bosch - 2nd round (#34)
Jason Taylor - 3rd round (#73)
(DE/ILB) Adalius Thomas - 6th round (#186)
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila - 5th round (#149)
Aaron Schobel - 2nd round (#46)

You can also get solid, consistent contributors:

Alex Brown - 4th round (#104)
Jarvis Green - 4th round (#126)
Robert Mathis - 5th round (#138)
Bobby McCray - 7th round (#249)
Derrick Burgess - 3rd round (#63)

Here's my preview of the first 5 picks :

Dolphins : Jake Long
Rams : Glenn Dorsey
Falcons : Matt Ryan
Raiders : Vernon Gholston
Chiefs : Chris Long

But if it were to turn out like this
Dolphins : Jake Long
Rams : Vernon Gholston
Falcons : Glenn Dorsey
Raiders : Chris Long
Chiefs : Matt Ryan

Now I hope that happens right there cause that would be the perfect opportunity for the chiefs to work out a trade with some teams lookin for QB's like Baltimore. In this case Baltimore would be the perfect team to work this trade out with since they have the # 8 pick, and then if the trade went through then we would be able to get DT Sedrick Ellis at 8 and i'd be thrilled.

And if we trade Allen....I don't see the Raiders letting Chris Long fall to us.

The Rams need Interior Lineman. They will pick Dorsey so that they can move Carriker back to End.

Dorsey will go to either the Rams or the Falcons. He wont fall to us or Oakland. Jake Long aint gettin past the Dolphins. Vernon Gholston will be a Ram or Raider. Chris Long will be a Raider or a Chief. Matt Ryan will be a Falcon or possibly a Raven considering a trade with the Chiefs.

Everything I've heard here in STL is that they are sticking to what they did last year, which is play a base 4-3, and mix in a little 3-4 at times.
