Its kind of interesting to see Hillman throw out both his catchers in the lineup. That is very rare in the American league, because if something happened to Buck, we'd have no choice but to give up the DH slot for the rest of the game and force our pitchers to hit.

That's funny, considering the current state of our lineup.

He hit .277 with 26 HR and 95 RBI last year. I'm thinking maybe .167 has something to do with sample size.

he looks really really bad out there. he is costing this team a ton of runs. a natural left fielder would have made most, if not all, of these plays that he is screwing up.

I know I'm always the most patient one, maybe it has something to do with the Chiefs sucking wind, but the football mentality has hit Royals fans really hard early this season... across all the different message boards. People are acting like this team was supposed to go to the World Series just because we swept the Tigers and flipping out over the offense every time we lose. It's beginning to get annoying.

It's 19 freaking games into the season. Way too early to make any snap judgments on almost every player on this team that is under 30 years old. If anyone had said we'd be 9-10 at this point, everyone would've taken it. It's miles better than the typical 5-14 crap we usually see at this point. I just want to get through April somewhere near .500.... if this team even finishes at .500 that's outstanding progress. You just have to let guys like Butler and Gordon play... they are supposed to be a large chunk of the offense, and it's just not all there yet.

I'm fine with finishing 4th, not coming anywhere close to the playoffs, etc by the end of the year, so long as there are signs of improvement and reasons to hope in 2010-2011. I'm not really ok with our offense being dead-last in the AL, and only beating two NL teams. It is early, but not too early to be discouraged by our weak lineup.

Gordon and Butler aren't the problem or what people complain about and it's not a kneejerk reaction. I think most anyone that knows baseball realizes the Royals lineup is one of the worst in the league...

I'm sorry you can't have a corner outfielder that has 1 HR and 3 RBI's batting in the 3 hole.

Reerun_KC
04-20-2008, 05:14 PM
come on boys, I am so counting on your yearly 20 game losing streak. We have a nice start, lets keep this up

DeezNutz
04-20-2008, 05:17 PM
Speaking of knee-jerk reactions. I would like to see Hillman put Gordon back in the 3 hole. This was his decision when the club broke camp, yet it took him only 3 games to change his mind. I say change it back. I don't think pressure is an issue with Gordon; he's probably batted third on every single team he's played on since little league, so this might put him back in his comfort zone, if anything.

I agree with Mecca. Teahen batting third is the same as Gload batting third, and both options are terrible.

I think we should make an offer to Frank Thomas. I'm not sure KC is the type of place he'd want to go, though. It can't hurt... I mean I think we should be improving the offense... anything we can do to improve the team.

But at this point, the heart of the order consists of about 3-4 guys who probably haven't reached their potential yet. Definitely not with Butler, or Gordon. Those guys are still really inexperienced... not a ton of minor league experience, a year or less of MLB experience. And I don't think Teahen has been terrible... he's taking walks, at least... he's on pace for almost 100 walks. This offense needs someone like that badly. So I kinda feel the same way I used to feel about Emil Brown... I'm not sure he's a #3 hitter right now but his plate discipline has been better than most of the offense, give him a couple months and see if he can warm up... like Emil, and most of the A's-type hitters usually do. But people are acting like we put veterans like Surtain and Law out there and have a 32 pass defense. This offense isn't going to light up until Gordon and Butler play like 30 homer guys. I think that's more important than having John Buck or TPJ hit like superstars.

Mecca
04-20-2008, 05:22 PM
All I'm gonna say is, if you like what Mark Teahen does cause he draws walks then he should be batting 1st or 2nd and that means he DeJesus and Gathright can't all be starters, hell one of them should go...

You want offensive ineptitude? Take at look at the Dodgers, at least your team isn't paying a fatass centerfiedler batting .200 16 mil and a reserve outfielder who couldn't outthrow my grandma let alone hit farther about 10 mil.

I predict we won't be above .500 for the rest of the season. This team is no different than past Royals teams.

I agree and disagree with this statement. Ive been telling my wife that if and when we go under .500, we wont be above it again. That part i agree with you on, but the part that this team isn't any different than past Royals teams is asinine. It only takes a half-ass observer of the Royals to see how different this team is and how good things are going to look. We have never been able to look into the future and see good things from this team like we can now

Damn...left for the weekend to go camping and come back to see us lose 4 - straight. Not good.

I agree with Mecca. Teahen batting third is the same as Gload batting third, and both options are terrible.

why do people think gload sucks so much? he is a career .294 hitter, a tremendous fielder, and has an awesome last name.

get a load of the gload, bitches.

Gload is a great BENCH player, he has no power and can make contact, but i have yet to see him make clutch base hits. I'd rather us sign Frank Thomas for DH and have Butler start at first and have Gload come in late.
