All bc of this Jared Allen trade talk has suprned this talk that Carl wont pay the top players. I hate Carl like most fans but he has resigned all of the superstar players that the Chiefs have drafted to big money contracts. Derrick Thomas, Tony Gonzalez, Will Shields, Larry Johnson. The only one that was really let go in his prime was Dale Carter and he fizzled real quick with Denver.

Neil Smith (on the downside of his career, but could still play)

Donnie Edwards over Warfield was a HUGE mistake of GRob proportions.

So in short - the only time that Carl let a star player go, he ended up being right about doing so?

:hmmm:

Its nto about whether or not JA can still play or not. Obviously he can.

Forgot about that one. But to be honest, Gruden knew exactly how to use Gannon. I highly doubt Gannon would have ever developed like that in KC under Gun. DV would have dumped him because he didnt fit the system.

Reggie Tongue was a pretty good player-SS hasn't been the same since his departure-think about that for a minute.

Gannon was in his 30's when he went to Oakland. I agree he wouldn't have performed as well here because of the offense being run, but I wouldn't say he "developed" in Oakland.

Carl traded away Gary Green in the 70s, and let Barbaro walk to the USFL in the late 70s or early 80s. He traded Art Still to the Bills, for which I will never forgive him, and he let Lowery go, which I think anyone would classify as a mistake.

greg hill, percy snow, ryan simms, and harvey the neck williams were first rounders. . the chiefs have a pretty pathetic drafting history. . although the last 2 years have been ok. .

Derrick Thomas, Dale Carter, Jerome Woods, Tony Gonzalez, John Tait, LJ, Derrick Johnson, Dwayne Bowe

I think the Chiefs have been on par with most teams in the 1st round. All have busts.

Where they have been bad is the 2nd round.

Top 5 players at their position, Pro Bowl players drafted by the Chiefs is basically what I am getting - looking at the Chiefs history they will pay those guys.

The point is that there are very few players in the NFL who you can't find a suitable, cheaper replacement for via the draft, if you can draft well.

Throw 'em in the gutter and go buy another.

Very true. I think the Chiefs would have loved to have kept JA, but hes forcing their hand.

If they have to get rid of him, might as well rape the team of picks who wants him! I dont have a problem at all with it.

The questioned is slanted-you have to have GREAT players, to be able to want to retain them.:D Carl's superstars are few and far between. I can't name 10, that he drafted and developed into superstars. For nineteen years tenure that's pretty awful.

But I don't want Carl to use another 5th rounder on a 3rd rated college alum biased kicker!
