View Full Version : NFL Draft Why were so many OLinemen Selected?

For the past several months I have heard nothing but how stupid people were for thinking there might not be as many quality OLinemen available late in the draft as some were making it seem. Well, today there were 10 selected in the first 2 rounds, 8 in the first.

I know Mecca said that the Chiefsplanet mock wasn't realistic because people were choosing OLinemen "because homers on the board think that because the Chiefs need Oline help, they are completely overvaluing the position."

Has that view changed at all yet?

Teams did the same thing people in the mock did, they came up saying "hey we can fill OT this year" so when a couple teams took them everyone else felt they had to take one too..

A few teams got horrid value doing that.

All those dumb NFL franchises. If only they knew that you didn't approve.

I would bet if we looked back at this in 2 years, quite a few of those teams will be regretting it.....

The Broncos will be at the top of that list.
But they've had a few horrid drafts as of late, IMO.

The only guy that went unexpectedly was Duane Brown.

Collins and Nicks are both still there. As are several guards (Eric Young would be my choice in the 4th).

So no, I don't think anyone's surprised.

Baker went early...

Nicks would be gone if he didn't have character flaws.

Probably, but you know Herm feels he can handle those types of issues, and you can't teach Nicks' physical characteristics. 3rd round might be worth the risk to get a huge RT.

I think Gosder was a bit of a reach today, too.

I agree. Maybe leave McIntosch at LT this year, and plug Albert in at guard, with the intentions of moving him to LT next year, and grab Nicks and plug him in at RT.

A line of Nicks, Albert, Niswanger/Zuttah, Waters, and McIntosch doesn't look too bad to me.

If Nicks were to really fall.....to say the 4th the Chiefs might be able to actually net 3 starting OL.....

But I thought you can't rebuild a whole OLine in one offseason?

I wish we'd have left Solari at O-Line coach, and still had him here to coach this guy.

LOL, well that is 3 spots not 5.....

If that happens I think you give Albert his shot at LT to see if he can do it or not, if not you're likely picking high again next year you slide him inside and take Oher, no issue there.

Baker went really early. Otah may have gone near where projected, but the sacrifice to get him was huge.

some bad reaches for OL

Baker

and Carolina giving up a 2nd,4th, and 2009 #1 for Otah is just beyond words ****ing stupid...

And they picked BEFORE us.

Why?

Solari never developed an O-Lineman.

Yeah, that was way too much to give up for only one of the top O-lineman, not the top guy. Plus Otah is a Juco-transfer-he didn't face top competition his entire career.

i was sort of surprised that collins didn't get drafted. i thought he was a middle round pick but i didnt realize he was that far down the list in most teams' minds

The third is a middle round, and I think he'll go there.
