Good football player.
Small school Corner, but has a great size/speed combination. 6'0 207. 4.4 speed.
Reliable tackler.

He just didn't face big time competition at GVS.

Analysis
Positives: Prototypical size for corner, tall with decent build and nice arm span. ... Shows good hands for the interception and can high-point the ball. ... Turns and runs with receivers well, showing good speed and the ability to maintain position. ... Plays in the slot at times, but is best on the outside.

Negatives: A better athlete than football player. ... Does not play as physically or aggressively as you'd like with his size. ... He does not press much and is only adequate coming up in run support or getting off receiver blocks. ... Marginal backpedal, and plays a bit high. ... Rough transition against smaller, quicker receivers.

It's freaking hilarious how people seem to think the Chiefs were going to draft 12 name players. 12 guys ESPN hypes up.

If you're that bothered about names, thank God the Chiefs didn't start taking no-namers in round three and four like a LOT of other teams did. I've never even heard of some of the guys drafted 50+ picks before now.

Umm Nickel back? Brackenridge might be out.

My thoughts exactly, sounds like a Nickel back to me.

Or just another Marcus Maxey.

He produced at his level and the measurables are great. Pretty good combo that suggests he may have been plenty successful at higher levels, I'm allright with the pick.

Still would rather have seen LB or OG help. They must really like Niswanger.

http://grandvalleystate.scout.com/2/749449.html

A perpetual underdog, Brandon Carr went from lightly recruited to an All-American at Grand Valley. He still struggled to shed that tag heading into draft workouts as there were questions on his speed and level of competition. After outstanding workouts pushed his draft stock up, all Carr can do now is sit and wait for that faithful call.

All of a sudden, Brandon Carr has been popping up on “sleeper” lists in newspapers and on the internet. Anyone who had seen any GVSU games knows he did not just come out of nowhere. On second thought, maybe he did. While Flint Carman-Ainsworth has produced some big time recruits, Carr wasn’t one of them.

“I didn’t get a lot of offers,” he said, “I was what you’d call a late bloomer. Central Michigan showed me the most interest but their whole coaching staff got fired and GVSU was a good fit for me.”

While in Allendale, Carr proved the schools who passed over him wrong and became a two time All-American. Still, scouts questioned his speed and level of competition. In preparation for workouts, he went off to Chicago and trained with speed trainer Tom Christian.

Again, he proved the doubters wrong as he ran a 4.43, ironically, at Central Michigan’s pro day. If that wasn’t enough, he did 17 bench reps and vertical jumped 35-inches. Instantly, he went from a projected free agent to possibly going as high as the 6th Round.

“I was confident going into it,” he stated, “people were doubting me but I had been running 4.4s since my sophomore year, so I had to go out, get it one more time and it was a sigh of relief, an ‘I told you so’ kind of thing.”

Carr has worked out and interviewed with several teams including Jacksonville, Kansas City and Cincinnati. Teams like his size (6’0, 205), aggressiveness and he has now proven his speed. He also is competitive and has shown teams that he is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team.

“Being an underdog, you have to go the extra mile,” Carr said, “you have to do the extra things. I played special teams all four years. You’ve got to be on point at all times because you only have a couple chances to show yourself.”
He has made the most of his chances and now, there is nothing he can do but wait. Sunday, he plans to be at home, joined by family and friends for dinner and of course, watching the draft on TV.

“I don’t know really know what the feeling will be,” he responded when asked about having his name called, “I think I’ll smile and hold my family members and be happy as well as focused on the next step which is getting into camp and working hard.”

Maybe this time around, people will learn not to doubt him.

It's obvious we're looking for physical DBs that can fit our system and come up and contribute in the runnning game. Carr has all the physical skills you look for, it remains to be seen if he can turn those skills into production at this level.

He's also a great return man, I'm not sure if that's been mentioned yet.

Flint, MI — Former Grand Valley State University football player Brandon Carr plans to spend Sunday in his hometown of Flint.

He’ll visit with family and friends but could be taken in the NFL Draft, too.
The 21-year-old defensive back’s stock his risen recently. He could be picked in the sixth or sixth round according to several national prognasticators.

“I’m pretty excited about getting drafted this weekend,” Carr said. “I have mixed feelings what I should do Sunday. My family said this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We’re going to have some family and friends over, have a little dinner and enjoy each other’s company.

“We’ll watch the draft and see what happens.”

Fox Sports.com contributor Peter Schrager expects Carr to go in the seventh round.
“Carr’s one of the draft’s true unknowns,” Schrager wrote on FoxSports.com. “A lightning-fast cornerback with outstanding kick-return skills, a team in need of a playmaker may take a waiver on the kid in the seventh round.

“He's one of those under-the-radar defensive backs who could end up having a 10-year career at the next level. Or ... he won't get drafted and you'll never hear from him again.”

CNNSI.com has Carr getting selected in the early seventh round, saying he has the physical skills to be a nickel back at the next level and could make a roster if he completes his game.

NFL teams are taking a look at the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Back of the year because of his 6-foot-1, 206-pound frame and a 40-yard dash speed of 4.39 seconds.

He said his stock rose after participating in Michigan State University’s pro day.
“There were way more scouts there,” said Carr, who worked out in GVSU’s and Central Michigan University’s pro days. “They got to see me first hand backpedaling, doing different drills and breaking on the ball. I’m a hard worker. I’m a competitor.”

Playing as a four-year starter for the Lakers, who claimed two NCAA Division II national championships made and four playoff appearance in four years, also elevated interest, Carr added.

“We don’t lose many ballgames,” said Carr, whose senior class went 51-4. “A lot of teams hit on that. I’m a proven champion.”

If you've seen Carr play, like I have, you wouldn't call it a WTF selection. I would have preferred him in the 6th, but the Herm seems really high on him... maybe the Chiefs thought he wouldn't be there when they picked in the early 6th.
