We might but he almost has no value left, too old and frankly he is in decline.

Cap hit would be too much.

Anybody remember the deal he signed? I sure would like to see the details.

He said that he is only going to play 2 more years, right? That is what I seem to remember, anyway.
Then he can spend his retirement days humping October all day every day.

I can't find specific details other than "17 million guaranteed". Which could mean anything from a 17 million signing bonus to a 7 million signing bonus with a 10 million roster bonus in 2010...
He's probably tradeable in cap terms, but at his age, I doubt the value would be enough in picks to make it worthwhile. I could see maybe squeezing a low 2nd out of a contending team, and that's probably overly optimistic.

I'm willing to bet the Chiefs would love to take the cap hit for the 3rd or 4th rounder they think they could get in return.

Nope. TG is the vet who will usher in the new Chiefs. I hope we can turn it around and get TG deep in the playoffs in 2 years

Sort of... back in January 2007. Since only $17M was guaranteed, he could be traded after June 1 and have the cap hit spread over 3 years.
Right?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tony Gonzalez has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that keeps him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.
The eight-time Pro Bowler, just two touchdown catches short of the league record for his position, will receive about $17 million in guaranteed money, a person close to the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose the information.

If he was going to be traded, it would have been this year. Any later and he's too old, IMO.

I wonder if it's a two-tiered bonus? It also only shows four years on a five year contract. Did we re-sign him with a year remaining on his previous contract or were his numbers completely off the books when he was re-signed??

It shows free agent for year 5. I would assume there is some kind of opt out option for that year.
And no, I do not think Clark would agree to trading Tony. He will absolutely retire a Chief.
