I must've missed something.

Speaking of escape, I'm actually at work right now animating a rastered 2d image of a flower into a 3d rendering of a blossom opening, for a client (drug company...).

The frustrating thing is that I've rendered this thing out 5 times this afternoon, each time discovering a new mistake I'd missed before.

Each render takes 20 minutes, so I'm nearly 2 hours behind schedule.

It sucks that he's gone, but I'm not going to deify the man. He came across as really spiteful the past few years, and I hope he finds whatever peace he hopes to find by leaving this place.

Stevie was being a complete jerkoff (in that thread and everywhere in DC), so Banyon responded in kind. One single post isn't at fault, anyways.

What-

Holy shit.

Stevie was on the DC Shitbirds All-Star Team. I don't recall ONE substantive post from him, and to portray him as some sort of DC Ghandi is ridonkulous.

I would trade 5000 of you for one Stevie and I'll bet the percentage on this board that would second that motion is a HELL of a lot higher than those that would not.
It sickens me to see the likes of you cackling over SR's departure.
Seems over the past few years this board has lost some good people that have been replaced by shitbirds.

Welcome back Fax.....

I hate seeing stevieray go....met him, liked him, and can understand his desire to depart. This place has taken a long, slow turn over it's lifetime as most things always do....all you have to do is take witness to the patrons on your favorite eating place, bar, or place to play. One thing is for sure and that is change is constant and we have seen plenty here in both the people and the tone of retorts.

It has always been my persona to be the most invisible "original" Planet member, and I have done that for a reason. One is the fact that my life completely changed when my wife and children become the "refocus" of my life after spending way too much time on the Star Board then this place. It's amazing what an occasional respite will do to keep you from being a real jerk when responding. Secondly, I have noticed the change in the persona of this place and while I may not like it in any way, shape, or form who am I to say what is right. Rather than try to change people I just changed my visibility.

I will make this one comment though....there are several here who do believe that they are larger than life, and bigger than the sum of this board. Unfortunately they make the Planet a less than pleasant place to visit, and revel in the destruction they leave behind.

SR....when you have had time to relax and enjoy a respite from here, feel free to come on back.

There's no doubt that Stevie took this place and the things that were said too personally. The Planet is not what it used to be and my posting habits have changed accordingly. Too bad he couldn't do the same.

I want to take a post and voice a defense for Ultra Peanut. I think UP is a fine poster, with a good sense of humor and solid contributions to the board. This despite the fact we certainly don't see eye to eye on every social issue.

And you don't have to completely agree with someone to be alright with him or her. I personally think stevieray often saw through a strict political lens on here, unfortunately.

SR must be an absolutely great guy in person, because in my short time here, I didn't see it on the board. Sure, I got off on the wrong foot with the guy due to my dislike of people wearing costumes to games, and he and I had our rounds a few times, but even when I was actively trying to make up with the guy, I never saw the greatness that many here are claiming.
He neg repped me for seemingly minor stuff from time to time, did his best to insult me whenever I posted something he disagreed with, and apparently neg repped my wife every time she posted about religion. I did see small flashes of him being nice, but those times (until very recently) came few and far between.
Finally, after the last blowup, we came to a pretty good understanding of each other. I felt I was finally going to see the greatness that people always post about... but obviously I won't. I'm sorry he's gone, I guess only because I was looking forward to seeing what everyone posted about (him being great...). I genuinely wish the guy well, and maybe I'll meet him in person one day... but lets not deify him like he was innocent on this site, and unfairly attacked. He did at least his share of attacking, as well.
As far as Banyon's post that broke the camel's back, I think it's unfair to lay that at his feet. I've seen much worse from other "respected" posters on here, and those types of posts are celebrated. I also know that Banyon isn't the only one to say shitty stuff to SR. I'll take part of the responsibility for that, as well. But I don't remember EVER going at him before he went at me first.
If SR's reading this, I think he'd agree. But what do I know?Wow, people like Banyon and Sully ran SR off, why am I not surprised.

Here's the one that led to the attack for which I have been rightly criticized all day:

No wonder you ended up in the great metropolis of Dodge City.

In other words, you aren't really smart enough or good enough to ever land any decent work. (again, he knows what I do and that I moved).

Did I respond too bitterly? Yes. Was I drinking, yes. Who turned it personal? Not me. You guys who never posted in DC much and stay out of there for good reason, probably didn't see much of this behavior on his part, because he was all smiles and high fives in the Lounge. banyon—I harbor no ill-will, at all. We all make mistakes. Lord knows, I continue to make them. It’s just the kind of thing I hope folks learn from….crossing that line. If he did, I’m sure that’s what part of this is about. Stevie wouldn’t be proud of that.

noa has it right….what really upset Stevie is when folks got personal, or attacked his religion. I can understand that. Then, nasty and bitter stuff does have a tendency to fester. For me, it’s passive-aggressive, and IMHO, cowardly bullshit (there are three or four posters in particular) when people post is code….if you got a problem with me or something I’ve said be direct; otherwise, s.t.f.u. I enjoy dumbassery….just not junior high dumbassery. I got over that shit 30 years ago.

Mark M—you aren’t a dick. And even if no one else loves you, I do….heh. : p
Seriously though, your “he never hesitated to make a personal attack”….is a complete joke. He responded to in-kind, and while that makes him human….your distortion does him an injustice. If you wish to cast his calling a spade a spade (calling someone an attention whore—fwiw, he rightly called me on it at times,) his hobby as a “super-fan” has little or nothing to do with the substance of his posting and political positions. I agree, to some extent his terse and snide posting style became more pronounced….but, frankly, it was with morons who asked for it—at least most of the time. The internet allows some more reserved folks to be more direct and “upfront” than common courtesy and decency allows us to be “in-person.” Certainly, I fall into that category at times….though I’m trying to more consistent. IMO, what you are missing…is that Stevie eventually lost patience with folks who chose to get personal, instead of as you suggest….agreeing to disagree.

Zach: see BDs response to your post; he hit a home run in post #222.

dirk—his “increased” frustration was with the dorks who intentionally are choosing to be stupid, for the most part: the real trolls or the intentionally belligerent types which have come to dominate DC (myself included, at times.) I can understand 100%.

Tiptap—you are FOS, on this. Just wait and see what happens if McCain wins (as he just, unthinkably, may.)

U.P.—I really do like/enjoy you and your posting here, for the most part. You and I are a perfect example of how political disagreements can over-shadow everything else. No way you’ll convince me stevieray “deserved” that from banyon….I notice banyon has yet to post the alleged provocative post. By the end, Stevie was trying to convince us all we are wasting our time in that cess pool….at least for the most part. Anything more than 15-25 posts a week over there, seems to bring out the worse in folks. He gave up on substantive posts, but only to people who have their minds made up. Why bother it’s like beating your head against the wall. He isn’t Ghandi---but he “gets it” more than most of the DC assclowns from either side of the isle (myself included.) Regardless, I enjoy your presence here….although you can be pretty insensitive for someone who you’d think would understand needing to be sensitive and tolerant.

H.J. (heh, bet you hate that)—I suspect your ideological differences with Stevie make it really hard for you to be objective. You’ve become one of the CP success stories, like Mark M. and I….who seem to be able to “agree to disagree,” which is so unlike the assholes who can’t grasp the notion due to some ideologically driven zealotry.

keg-in-kc—you pretty much nailed it too. But it’s hard to NOT take things seriously, when folks talk about your finances/career/hobby/wife/family in ways that are intended to wound.

FAX—good to see you. Now, go drag SR back to this shithole too.

Jenson71—SR didn’t have a strict “political lense.” He just called it like it is, and agree or disagree with Stevie he didn’t get personal AFAIK until jerkoffs got personal with him. He chose to respond in-kind, and frankly I didn’t blame him most of the time. He's human like the rest of us.

Like others have said, I like stevieray a lot. I hope to run into him on other boards, and at the games. He added more to this place than he detracted….by his impatience and intolerance aside, as they were never mean-spirited, but usually a response in-kind to personal affronts to his values, his family, or the Chiefs. Personally, I can respect a guy who values those things in life—even if you sometimes disagree.

Just got off the phone with Stevie. Yes, he did leave the board. He said it was because of exactly what Frazod stated. Tired of the jerkoffs, the constant personal attacks and to spend more time with his family.

I'm a n00b, so when I got here, stevie wasn't posting much, but when he did, I enjoyed it. I stay the **** out of DC though. If I go in there, I just read the thread starter and move along.

I don't get all the personal insults though. I haven't ever been pissed off enough at someone to take potshots at them. When people try to jerk my chain, I dunno, I guess I just disregard it. That being said, no one posts shit about my family. Either way, I guess I just don't see the value in talking shit on someone on a BB.

Fact is that a lot of quality posters don't post here anymore. Htismaqe is the one at the top of mind. I thoroughly enjoyed that dudes posts. I don't know if it was jerkoffs or not, but other people have had problems with it too. FMB, Big Daddy, etc. Maybe I just don't get it, but getting into a pissing contest online just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather read and learn from you guys that really know football and all the other topics discussed. Maybe I am being overly utopic though.

Okay, I guess I need to post my last two exchanges with him.

unprovoked

They were always vague, with just enough innuendo to get the job done and get the inside message to buddy posters. Here (because he knows me and what I do) he's saying I (personally) am lazy, and don't pay enough attention to my job, and unethically waste taxpayer resources.

Here's the one that led to the attack for which I have been rightly criticized all day:

In other words, you aren't really smart enough or good enough to ever land any decent work. (again, he knows what I do and that I moved).

Did I respond too bitterly? Yes. Was I drinking, yes. Who turned it personal? Not me. You guys who never posted in DC much and stay out of there for good reason, probably didn't see much of this behavior on his part, because he was all smiles and high fives in the Lounge. Again, I liked the guy in person, but we didn't get along on this board AT ALL.

I don't think it's any big secret that SR has a few insecurity issues - don't we all? We're friends and I think even I've pissed him off to the point he didn't want to be around me.

What you said was harsh but I think he probably opened the door. I can understand feeling somewhat guilty for it but you don't owe anybody anything. He jumped in the water, he forfeited his right to complain about getting wet.

Did you know a good chunk of the penis is located inside the body? If you get a couple tendons slashed you can easily lengthen your schlong outside the body. Your member won't stand up quite as well, but who cares? Sadly a lot of patients who undergo this procedure are dissatisfied. But you can add up to an inch and a half from what I hear.

I didn't read this whole thread but from what I can gather everyone agrees that just about all the rest of you are assholes. Apparently it's a consensus from the majority of members that if the majority of members would leave the Planet would be much improved. Most of us wish almost everyone would go away because most of you are annoying/wrong/trolls/too religious/not religious enough/too conservative/too liberal/too offensive minded/too defensive minded/too much a homer/too negative and/or just generally a pain in the ass.

I hope that helps clear things up.

I agree, ultra dipshit should shut the **** up and suck it's own helmet. I'm tired of hearing it whine incessantly after it gets slam dunked consistently in DC.

:spock:

I really couldn't disagree with this post any more. I think UP is one of the posters that makes CP worth going to. The best thing about UP is that she's is the quintessential postmodern poster. Reading a UP post is like reading Walter Benjamin--there are so many diverse sources interwoven together--you might not get all the allusions, but the ones that you do get you really appreciate.

And thinking that UP somehow gets "slam dunked" in DC is pretty far off base unless you only read the people who disagree with her.

I think that a lot of the people who don't get UP's posting style are the same kind of people who watch a movie with a non-traditional narrative and then walk out or turn it off because it isn't what they were used to. Sorry if there's no complication-acceleration-climax-denouement...

Too bad to hear this. Steve was always a very nice guy in person, and would always make time to say hi, at the least. The one thing I've learned about internet personalities is that the person you read and the person you meet are generally two different people. Hell, I had a beer with Meck 77 and some other Orangemane guys when they brought their Bronco Bus to Arrowhead a couple of years ago. All of them were cool as hell, and they gave us a tour of the bus. I mean, just look at Chagrin. You'd think he was a world class dick by just reading his posts, but if you never met him in person, you'd never realize that he is just kind of a dick. :D I have found it best to never take anything too seriously when it comes to personal attacks around here.

Hopefully he will find peace taking a break from this place. I am pretty confident in saying the DC forum has bugged him for some time, so it's probably all for the best for him to go catch his breath.

Thanks, I really tried hard with Stevie, far harder than I try for anyone other than DEnise (because I know her better now than others and frankly she is abused with terminology that is pretty outrageous) but she is tougher perhaps than all the rest of us combined. She is really an amazing psychological study. Stevie meanwhile was perhaps the most sensitive male I ever met and a more loving caring individual you could not meet. But he had this strange alter ego and I saw him chase after people and Banyon was one he just egged, on and on and on, until I think Banyon broke. Too bad really. Man this place is really starting to depress me, Gaz, Mr Blond, Parker, Stevie, and several others gone.

Just my opinion but Stevieray provoked you repeatedly and in my opinion you finally snapped. Not saying you are without fault but that you probably should not beat yourself up over it either.

What percentage of the people on this board have met SR? 10% maybe? During my time lurking and observing, his posts were almost always attacking someone with a vague cheap shop.

Does he deserve some sort of pass because he has real life friends on the board? I've never met him, probably never will. Just because he was nice in person doesn't mean I would give him for being negative with 95% of his posts.

In my opinion this board just got better.

I think your post has some merit but I think you overgeneralized somewhat - "almost always attacking" is an overstatement. But he did his share of attacking, which isn't to disrespect him at all. I can't think of too many who haven't - though there are some.

95% negativity probably isn't fair either. He's contributed a lot to this site over the years. Maybe recent months have been rough, I don't know. I try to stay out of DC.

With all due respect to SR, I don't feel that way about you. Maybe I missed your posts earlier this decade but I find you to be a moderate, well informed poster.

I think that most of us, when backed into a corner, are going to come out swinging. I don't care if you're 3'6 or 6'6. People defend themselves the best way they know how.

On the internet, it's the obvious. SR recreates Elvis on Sunday. He's an easy target. Mecca (regrettably, I'm sure) has shown pictures of himself with long hair (which for some stupid reason, is a target for some posters). FMB has worn his shirt on his sleeve regarding piracy. Fraz shot his freakin' fridge (I think that Morphius should sticky that - as a matter of fact, the Thread of the Month and the Thread of the Year should be stickied).

I had a dumbf*ck attack me a pic forum because I've said my wife is Asian. He went off on me, calling a pic that I said looked like her, a "tranny", then later called her a nail technician.

This was completely and totally unprovoked (and seriously, my wife graduated UCLA with a 3.9 in Mathematic and Econ, own two very different businesses and is massively successful from a financial standpoint). It happens ALL THE TIME to me because (stupidly) I've revealed a few things about me (living and working in Hollywood, etc.). And TRUST ME, for the few times I've shared stories around here (and been lambasted), I've got 100 times as many that I won't share because of the hate.

Being the butt of a few jokes just means you fit in. I really think most of us would get along well in real life.

Well, I think that Kirstie's deal was different.

Neil Patrick Harris was on a local radio station this week (Adam Corolla - I don't know if he's syndicated or not) and said that the internet sucks. For every 1,000 posts of adulation, the ONE post where someone hammers him is like a dagger in the heart. He said he stopped reading the 'net, just because of that. I don't blame him (especially since he's gay and there's so much pure hate out there for homosexual men).

Kirstie came looking for trouble. Anyone who searches for accolades better be prepared for the worst. That's the business. There's always someone looking to knock you down a notch, regardless of whether or not it's valid or necessary. In her case, she was looking for affirmation that she is/was a "model" from a bunch of guys on a football forum. Considering everyone from Gisele Bundchen to Tera Patrick to Jenna Jamison to Charlize Theron has been body-slammed, she picked the wrong forum in which to find support.

But for people like UP, who is constantly slagged on for admitting to being a TS - well, that's un-f*cking-cool. I don't think her opinion on ANYTHING is any less valid because of hormones or genetics.

We're just fortunate enough that DenverChief has thick skin because otherwise, his input would be sorely missed.

The ironic thing about UP's main detractor is that he's stated in about 20,000 posts that bi-sexuality is cool and bisexuals are cool but apparently being born with genetic anomalies, only to later "corrective surgery", is somehow uncool.

I guess you're never going to please everyone.

And I, for one, couldn't give a f*ck.

Maybe he finally realized he had no self-control over this place (especially DC) and did what he thought was best for him.

We're all a bunch of idiots on the internet. That's it, that's all we are. Don't ever forget that. You (if anybody is actually crazy enough to read this) are no more or less intelligent than anybody else here, what you believe is no more 'right' or 'wrong'. We're all the same, just a bunch of shmoes wasting time we should probably be spending doing something more constructive. .

If you're stupid enough to post personal shit (speaking as someone who's been stupid enough to post personal shit) you have nobody to blame but yourself if people use it against you (speaking as someone who's been stupid enough to post personal shit and had people try to use it against me).

In my experience, when they learn they can't get under your skin with it...they stop.

So...don't let them get under your skin.

It's probably weird to hear it from me, but, hey, if you want people to treat you a certain way, treat them that way. It may be corny, but the golden rule generally works. And like I said yesterday, I liked Stevie as a guy, but he did tend to reap what he sowed...

But I do respect that he cut himself off and didn't make a scene about it. Although I think I would've taken a time-out rather than deleting myself, and it is too bad he's gone, but it's ultimately his decision to make.

I have posted lots of really deep personal stuff and it has been the most rewarding thing about posting here. I guess I don't get where you are coming from.

You seem to be obsessed with calling everyone who posts here stupid or an idiot. We certainly have more than our share of idiotic losers here but we also have some very sharp good people here. You keep trying to throw everyone in the same bucket and your take couldn't be further from the truth.

stevie was genuine and wore his emotions on his shirt sleave. He was also a really good guy who I would put in my top 10 list as someone who would probably give you the shirt off his back if you really needed it. It was my observation that the people who had the biggest issues with him were the "we are the PC and everyone should think like we do" crowd.

Thanks for splainin it to stoopid me. I must admit, I have to check myself when I go there. It brings out the worst in me, really. Too bad you all couldn't see all the shit I had typed out but couldn't hit submit. It was good therapy just typing it though. ;)

I have posted lots of really deep personal stuff and it has been the most rewarding thing about posting here. I guess I don't get where you are coming from.Oh, I agree with you on that. It helped me a lot 4 or 5 years ago to talk to people about what was going on. All I'm saying is that there are some people (generally not long-time regulars) who think it's okay to take liberties with that kind of information, and when that kind of thing happened I didn't have anybody to blame for that but me. I didn't curl up into a little ball, or cry about it (and I'm not saying stevie did either)...

Basically just pointing out that if someone does attack you for personal stuff, well, you are the one who gave them the ammo. You seem to be obsessed with calling everyone who posts here stupid or an idiot. But I'm not calling anybody/everybody stupid, I'm just saying we're all similar in that we spend time here and shoot the shit, kind of like an online bar. And (you're entitled to disagree with me on this; it's just my opinion...) I don't think anybody should take anything that goes on here any more seriously than that. We're just a bunch of bullshitters tossing crap back and forth over a beer...Reaping what you sowed? OK I'm just going to leave that one alone.Stevie can (or could, I guess) get really, really aggressive in DC. I don't remember him ever doing it with me but I saw it happen plenty of times with other people. He could get downright nasty, which was always real surprising from a guy that I know from personal experience is one of the coolest, nicest, most laid-back people you'll ever meet.

Hell, I think it's possible he left in part because he didn't like the way he was acting. Maybe not, but I don't think that's entirely crazy. I know that's why I keep Proctor on permanent ignore, he's the one guy I really can't stand here, and I put him my list so I don't make an ass out of myself bulldogging him.

I know I was probably part of the problem as well. But I have to say, I'm baffled by the god-like aura that surrounds the guy.

Cool, he's a nice guy in person, I've never met him. But if people were to judge from here, it's a TOTALLY different story. One line snarky remarks, always trying to push buttons, almost never a content-oriented post, etc. Not saying everyone doesn't do that once in a while, but with him it was almost every conversation. But before I start rambling these two posts said it better:

In my opinion, he just got sick of the pathetic games that ideological nutcases play over in DC.....when he was genuinely interested in dialogue aimed at helping people to understand, that all the petty bickering and partisan bullshit that so many ignorant asses and ideologically charged wind-bags are so engaged in...is nothing but a waste of time.

I'm one of those who eventually understood his point. I'm a slow learner, but there ain't no waking up people who are committed to being.....stupid, and part of the problem rather than part of the solution to the problem.

--Mr. Kotter

Not to be a dick and crush all the stevieray love, but unless he's changed in the past few years, that's not quite accurate.

The guy never hesitated to make a personal attack, and looked upon anyone who disagreed with his political opinions as having some sort of glitch ... he'd accuse others of being attention whores, apparently unaware of the irony ... he made it nearly impossible to have a "dialogue" by replying with snide 20-word replies that weren't funny (unlike sec's snide 20-word replies, which are funny) ... he was, in in the end, one of the "ideologically charged" windbags on this board. As am I and many, many others on occasion.

In person, though, he is one of the nicest guys around and has some ridiculous talent. He also has an absolutely wonderful family. In short, a terrific guy.

It's that dichotomy between what people appear as on this board and what they are in person that used to make it so unique. Sure, we disagreed with a passion and took numerous shots at each other, but there was always this understanding of it stopping at a certain point, agreeing to disagree, and moving on.

That just doesn't seem to happen as much any more. Not sure if the passions are just too heated due to the way things are now -- for the war vs. against, the election coming up, the economy in the crapper, etc. -- or the Chiefs sucking sweaty donkey balls, but things are just ... I dunno ... different.

Met once at a game, for Memorial day or Vetrans day (cool halftime show where the military swore in a few dozen new service members). Stevie came up to me shook my hand with vigor and introduced me to his young daughter. Telling her - "this man served our country in the Army, became a police officer and is now going back into the military. He is the type that makes this country great and we should thank him for his service." Gave me chills for that great introduction and when his daughter shook my hand and said thank you.

I got to disagree with you on one thing, though: when it's something subjective like an opinion or a philosophy, there really isn't a right or wrong. That's one of the difficulties with political and religious discussions, because they're esoteric arguments and don't deal with palpable fact.

Anyway, I don't think we really got anything to disagree about here. I don't think everybody is the same, either, literally speaking. There's people who are smarter, there's people who are more successful, there's people with better common sense. Everybody is different. I'd never argue that.

How is this not outing banyon? Maybe the reason you're the biggest "outer" on this board (although in truth I have no problem with you on that front) is that you don't know an outing when you pull one.

I liked Stevie and I hope he someday comes back. I never had any occasion to get into it with him because in a lot of ways he and I agree and in those ways in which we disagree we are tolerant of each other. I don't know why he left, but to put the weight of blame on banyon is tremendously unfair, IMO. There were several DC posters who were at least as personal and harsh in their criticisms of Stevie at times as banyon was on this rare occasion, including at least one person who is being critical of banyon in this thread who I won't out.

Whatever his reasons for leaving, it was Stevie's choice to leave. There aren't many people who wander into DC not knowing what goes on over there.

Haven't there been a few votes on whether or not to ban her that have failed? Seems like I remember seeing at least one in the past year or so.it's an annual ritual...

the highlight of nearly every off season since i've been here, a poll is posted trying to ban duhneese...

it has never worked before and it won't work now...

she has not killed anybody with her venom yet...

if people don't want to see, hear, or taste the insanity that is duhneese, all they have to do is install cpiggy for internet explorer or daface's add on that does the same thing in firefox...

it seems to me that if somebody didn't want to be bothered with her stuff, they would just put her on ignore and go on about their business...

it seems like some people have a love/hate relationship with her...

they love to bitch and no matter how many times they try to get her banned, it has never happened, and i don't see anything different this time except for the fact that duhneese can now be ignored completely...

which removes at least part of the "reasons" people want her banned...

whether you choose to ignore her or bitch about her, she's not going anywhere anytime soon...

Very true, but I don't think you can deify the man and at the same time ignore the fact that this was his schtick while on the board.

I'm fine if you want to say he's a good guy because you've met him in real life (always a funny phrase) but on here, at least to me, it was nothing but what i pointed out. And apparently, I'm not alone.

But I digress. I still wish him the best of luck. Hell, i tried back about 4 months ago to ban myself from the DC but that didn't work.

LOL, ok even I think what Phobia said is funny, but that's why I don't mind posting a picture, I'm thick skinned and I find that shit funny it rolls off my back. Doesn't bug me at all.

You know Mecca for all the shit you get, I noticed you were pretty informed on draft day and I appreciated the perspectives you were able to bring.

The odd thing about UPs detractor is he really is one pretty cool and tolerant. Occassionally he lets certain posters get under his skin and then he won't let it go.

One of the best, and most eccentric senses of humor we have here. :D

Half of what UP posts, I don't get... but the half I do is hilarious.

Nailed it.It's weird.

I never really tangled with him online, and I did meet him in person.

There's no doubt he was wayyyyy different here.
