He completely missed two straight routine balls in the outfield in the top of the 7th to give the Cardinals a much needed insurance run.

I like this team a lot. It doesn't have anywhere near the talent of the '04 or '05 squads, but it's scrappy, and they play hard every day. They also have a lot more plate discipline, which has really, really helped their offense, because they wear the opposing teams out.

As good as guys like Edmonds, Rolen, and Sanders (when he was on) were, their fast-hack approach to the plate led to way too many 5 pitch innings. That shit used to drive me crazy.

2003 KC Royals record through 32 games: 20-12
2008 St. Louis Cardinals record through 32 games: 20-12

Both teams had a roster full of young players no one outside of it's own fanbase had even heard of. The only difference you can make is that the Cardinals do have one superstar while the Royals didn't but Albert Pujols will not be able to carry that team once the bats dissapear. Pitchers will find more weaknesses as the year progresses and they are scouted more. I am not worried for a second about the St Louis Cardinals this year. Pujols and Ankiel is not a deep enough threat to frighten anyone when the pennant race is on come late August.

I love how the only argument you both can make is about history. Historically speaking yes you have won more championships but that has nothing to do with this year. This year your team is overachieving thus far. The cubs have been playing well without Sorianos bat which historically is sure to come around. All of the Cards fans knew going into this year that it was a rebuilding year. However now that they have overachieved in a primarily home part of the schedule you all seem to be blinded to the fact that come September you will be 8+ GB of the NL Central lead. Talent comes into play as the season progresses and the current rosters are not even comparable in talent level.

The first team to ever win back to back world series were the cubs
in 1907 and 1908. But whens the last time they won a World Series ?

Other than the NY Yankee's, what other team in MLB has the 2nd most World Series Championships ??? It aint' the Cubs thats for sure.

In case you forgot we actually won the NL Central about 7 months ago.
ROFL The NL Central? Who gives a chit? It's what you do in the playoffs that matters not what seed you get.

I witnessed a catcher get a standing ovation last night for throwing out a runner. It wasn't a real close game. It was just the second out of the inning. It was the middle of the game with lots of baseball left to be played. But there it was. A spontanous standing O for a catcher throwing a runner out. When have you ever saw that?

The Cardinal fans appreciate effort and hustle regardless of the position the player plays. If anyone wants to questions whether the Cardinal fans are (in general) the most knowledgable and appreciate fans in baseball just put in the game tape on May 4th and watch a standing O given for the effort on a routine play.

Not likely, considering the guy that DID do steroids and DID lie to a grand jury STILL isn't serving time...

Are you trying to say that Cubs fans aren't knowledgable and appreciative to the game of baseball? What about Tom Glavine's 300th career win at Wrigley where he received a standing ovation and thousands of Cubs fans chanting Tommy Glavine as he left the field.

And my argument was never that we would win the world series this year. As a Cubs homer I obviously think we have a shot, but my only argument was that they will have a better season than the Cards this year. You all brought up the World Series like you always do.

The 99 year drought doesn't bother me one bit. I'm only 21. I have followed Cubs baseball since I was in elementary school so I have only had to deal with them not winning it for 15 years or so. The Cards have only won once in my lifetime so the other 9 you all try to bring up don't mean shit to me. The wait will just make the celebration that much sweeter when it does finally come since every Cubs fan will be witnessing it for the first time in their life just like me.

You know, with the name SEA OF RED, you really should be rooting for the Cardinals.

Ohhh so it only counts during your lifetime? What about your Dad's? What about Bob dole's life? Hootie's? Or are you just completely out of smack that you just resort to I'm the only one that matters tack?

It cool that you grew up a Cubs fan. No issues with that. Cub fans are (in general) knowledgable and appreciate fans also. Just not as smart and cool as Cardinal fans.ROFL

Depends on which Cardinals fans. I have no problem with the life-long Cards fans like it seems most of you are. It's the Cardinals fans that popped up all over Columbia while I was living there in 2006 that piss me off. I know every team that wins the world series gets those fans along with it, but that is the reason I'm so hateful to most Cards fans. At least being a Cubs, Royals, Chiefs and Tigers fan means no one can ever call me a bandwagon fan. :)

You know when we won the World Series in 2006 there was some posters talking about bandwaggon Cardinal fans. I still call BS. I've never met a bandwagon Cardinal fan. Most have been fans since birth. I know all the posters on here that are Cardinal fans are long time Card fans.

This weekend was my first Cards vs. Cubs weekend as an adult. It was pretty cool talking with the Cub fans. They have a passion for thier team that I can admire.

I agree, a bandwagon Cards fan is pretty rare.

For the longest time, the Cardinals were the most southern and most western team in MLB.

Didn't hurt that folks in over 20 states could hear Jack Buck call the game each night on KMOX either.

I would like to agree with you, but I have seen some bandwagon fans. Or at very least they become more vocal during the winning. It is like that in every fan base though. However, I do think that the Cardinals fans are some of the most knowledgable fans around and as proven last night give tremendous support to their players.

The Cubs - Cards rivalry is one of the best though in all of sports. Thank God the Cubs don't play every game of the year like they do against the Cards though.
